Legend Drydock 2011

I read on another thread that while the passengers were getting off on Sunday, they were already lifting the waterslide off with a crane and clearing out the casino.

My guess would be for new carpet in the casino. I haven't seen anything major done to a casino on ships that were out of service.

Yay! DW and I sail Feb 20th without our kids. Nothing against other people's kids, but we were kinda worried about it being February break for lots of school systems; that our cruise might be one long episode of "Suite Life on Deck." A serenity area sounds fabulous.

Your mission will be to take a few pictures of each of the newly refurbished public areas. We'll expect a full report by March 2. :D

Please post the starting & ending dates for the dry dock of the Legend ?

We want to book it for the Fall of 2012 & it does not show ?

We are booked on it for 4/29/2012 & that is the last available booking date shown ?

Our PPV knows nothing about why ?

Thanks.

Bill in FL

The Legend is in dry dock right now until her next sailing (which I will be on - woohooo) Feb 20.

More news today on the drydock:

From John Heald:

Carnival Legend. She will have a brand new disco with new design and a new serenity deck on lido aft. The ice cream machines have been moved as have the big plasma screens and it will be an exclusive strictly adults only area. It will have 44 upgraded sun lounges. 6 double bedded loungers, 10 love seats and hammocks.

They moved the ice cream machines!!! My husband had me specifically pick our cabins so we were directly near them. Does anyone know where they are going to move them too??

I'm just guessing, but I don't think they'll go far. Probably to just inside the Lido cafe, near the pizza and salad bar stations.

The other option would be near the main entrance to the Lido cafe (mid ship).

They just need to get them out of the soon-to-be Serenity area.

I was thrilled to hear about the Serenity area until I also read John's post that said it will now be non-smoking:mad: While this will thrill many of you, it is not good news for those of us who loved that area as it was one of the few places to sit and relax with a cigarette. I really wish they would have kept one side smoking...it is out in the open air, after all. Just a heads up for the people who are accustomed to smoking back there...not an invitation to a smoking war;)

My guess would be that none of the smokers has volunteered to replace the burned cushions. I'm glad to hear it.

Regarding the ice cream machines = I was just on the Pride with her new Serenedy Deck and I hate to report, but, the machines were not relocated. If it is the same, you will have to go out by the main pool for your "treats". A little exercise will allow for extra servings!

According to the Carnival site, the ice cream machines on Legend are currently located by the aft Unicorn pool. That is the area that will be transformed into the Serenity area. I'm pretty sure they will be moving the ice cream stations forward to the mid ship area of the Lido deck by the Avalon main pool.

I was also disapointed by this, it is a very large area and I prefer if anyone in our group smokes that it be away from where kids are playing. I am not a full time smoker, but if I have a drink I like a cigarette. Not that I EVER want to bother a non-smoker with my cigarette, but I do think the area is big enough to have a smoking side and it not bother the people on the other side. (Edit, just remembered) But! Right up the stairs from the aft deck, right where the slide exits, I recall a cigarette butt collector thing. Looks like I will be making some dashes up the stairs if the slide isn't too swamped by kids!

Last time I was on the Legend, there were already ice cream machines by the Avalon pool and the Unicorn pool. Perhaps they are just moving them inside the doors to the dining area. Which.. from the way I remember the boat would only move them closer to the cabins.

I asked our PVP since we leave 2 wks after it comes out and she told me they arent releasing the info as of yet, but she told me what not to expect....WaterWorks, Serenity area or "jumbotron".....She told me once they make it known she would email me

Isn't there already a Jumbotron (from the last drydock?)

NOPE! And that is a plus for the Spirit class ships, IMO! Those things are just too noisy being on all day. Also, spirit class ships don't have the proper seating (stadium) for it...another plus in my book!

I found the following information about changes to the Legend during her February 2011 drydock. It's from a Carnival staffer so I guess it's correct.

There have always been ice cream machines both aft and mid ships on the Legend. They will probably just take the back ones out. What a shame.

Sounds like they'll be relocated - might be by one of the mid-ship lido deck pool bars or something. They are quite popular so I doubt they'd take them out completely.

I booked an aft cabin just to be close to the Unicorn bar so now that it is turning into a Serenity deck this will be very convenient for an evening nightcap!

I never ventured down to the dance club last year so I won't see what they changed :(
