June 27 Seattle parade for those departing

If anyone is departing on June 27th be aware that the Pride parade which attracts about 300,000 will be held that day going down 4th ave to the Seattle Center. It will impact travel but there are ways around it. Its a fun parade to watch. For those arriving that day impacts won't be as great as most cabs go to Seatac from Hwy 99 vs thru downtown.

Thanks for the heads up. Our ship arrives back at Pier 91 that morning and we've got a 12:25 flight out of SeaTac.

you won't have a problem but for those trying to get to the pier especially where cabs meter by time as well as mileage it could create some hassles. From the pier most cabs head to hiway 99 which bypasses the congestionl.

So glad I read this thread. I will be arriving this day at 11:30 and trying to get to the Sheraton on pine and 6th. Ave.That may take a while.

from the airport you wouldn't have a problem but if you were trying to get to the ship from the Sheraton you could have a delay. Its just a warning since our cabs charge $.50 a minute for 'waiting' traffic can add to your fare. One more reason that the flat rate towncars from airport make a lot of sense.

Yes, starts at 11:00 am and usually lasts until about 2 or so. Starts at 4th & Union, which will be "right outside your front door," and you can expect people to start lining the streets even earlier than o dark thirty.

The challenge is the parade route goes all the way to Denny which is the 'normal' route to get down to the waterfront. All the 'thru' streets will be blocked. You could go down to third ave or take a cab down 1st avenue which would avoid all congestion right to the pier. You just want to avoid going down 4th or 6th or any street which you'd have to cross 4th ave. Hopefully this was 'helpful'.

We just realized the impact the parade will have on our pre-cruise stay. (we realized it was happening but not where and the magnitude!) We were staying at the Andra on 4th but last night changed to the Hotel Alexis on 1st.

 

Will there be much traffic problem going from 1st and Madison?

The traffic will still be affected, because of the reroute from the parade, that 4th Av traffic has to go somewhere, but likely less on First than other streets nearby, but you still need to plan for it.

no you should be fine. From the Alexis just turn right and follow the Waterfront (Alaskan Way) and you will avoid all the traffic. Its a good 'escape' route.

We are flying out that day. I wish we had known maybe we would have stayed an extra night. We are at the Sheraton and will be hopping on the Aiporter shuttle at 6:43 am. Are there any other Pride activities that weekend? We did a mediteranean cruise last summer and we happened to be staying in Barcelona for two nights on the same weekend and the parade was right outside our hotel on Las Ramblas. This was a total accident on our part, but happened to be a great parade.

just have the hotel get you a cab at the back of the hotel on Seneca and can then just go straight down the hill to the waterfront and bypass the parade and crowds. The parade start is 2 blocks north of there.

it all depends on where your hotel is. Lots of places wouldn't be affected but the main downtown ones would be.
