luvtwotrvl Posted May 28, 2010 Author #2 Share Posted May 28, 2010 Friday, May 28, 2010 Noordam – Palma de Mallorca, Spain Midnight - 3:00 am Continuing the journey toward the World Cup Soccer Events in South Africa (this is a charter until July 26, 2010 sailing out of Barcelona, Spain) The charter for the Noordam has been cancelled due to lack of demand. The press release suggests an early dry dock followed by a charter in Europe by the same company. We have no more specific information, but if you know more details, please share. Himself Posted May 28, 2010 #3 Share Posted May 28, 2010 David, thanks for the update and I have no information to share on the Noordam
English_in_Spain Posted May 28, 2010 #4 Share Posted May 28, 2010 We just got off the Noordam and I can confirm it is no longer going to South Africa. It is going into dry dock but nobody onboard (except perhaps the Captain and he was saying nothing) knew where this would be. Spa, Casino and Shop staff have all been moved to other ships. Many crew were coming to the end of their contract anyway and some others have been given time off. It will be interesting to see where it turns up for dry dock. treasure4two Posted May 28, 2010 #5 Share Posted May 28, 2010 We are going on the July 26 Noordam cruise out of Barcelona. Does anyone have any idea about what we can expect on a ship out of dry dock and how the crew will be, being their first week working together? Thanks! trvlcrzy Posted May 28, 2010 #6 Share Posted May 28, 2010 If the Noordam is headed into dry dock now, it should be out of dry dock before your July 26 sailing. There was mention of a charter by the same company who had booked the now-cancelled charter, so there should be some passengers enjoying the newly-refurbished ship (and the newly-compiled crew) before your sailing. If all of the time was for a dry dock... A dry dock extending from now (or even next week) all the way to July 26 would certainly be MAJOR, yet HAL didn't have the lead time to organize materials and laborers for a MAJOR overhaul. Hopefully some more specific details will appear soon!
