wwinfl91 Posted February 2, 2005 #1 Share Posted February 2, 2005 We are on the Jewell's Transatlantic this May and have also been shocked by the airfares to get back home. My TA checked with RCI and they only offer roundtrip air, we live in the Orlando area and picked this cruise leaving from Ft Lauderdale because we could drive to the ship (rental car) so that didn't interest us. The fare they quoted was $731 per person for the roundtip from Orlando to Ft Lauderdale and then London to Orlando as a reference. Anyway I just checked out the Aer Lingus site and they seem to have much more reasonable fares from Dublin to Orlando and cheap fares from London to Dublin so we are considering them. Has anyone flown on this airline who can give me any information on it? Also the only flights they have that actually go to Orlando are listed as charter flights. Is this something I should avoid and if so why? Thanks for any help you can give me on this issue. Have a great next cruise.
parrotcruiser Posted February 4, 2005 #2 Share Posted February 4, 2005 I was not impressed with Aer Lingus. ZERO legroom, surly old FA's, and not to be stereotypical here, but the passengers tended to overindulge in alcohol and be quite loud. That is ok on a 2 hour flt to Vegas, but 9 hours overnight, YIKES. On our last trip we flew AA to London and connected to BA to Dublin. MUCH better experience. You might want to check out the Aerlingus board on flyertalk.com I'm sure you can find a ton of info there.
JJPNYC Posted February 6, 2005 #3 Share Posted February 6, 2005 I flew Aer Lingus once from New York to Dublin & back. My experience is that it's a fine airline. Back in economy, it's the pretty standard product that you'd find in any airline. I'm sure that the "loud passengers that overindluge in alcohol" is a generalization & an isolated incident (this can happen on any flight where a group is booked and is truly hit or miss). I'd fly Aer Lingus again with no issues or concerns. jeff
Globaliser Posted February 6, 2005 #4 Share Posted February 6, 2005 Back in economy, it's the pretty standard product that you'd find in any airline.Except that they now charge for alcohol, even on their long-haul flights. It's a shame that they've now moved into the minority camp on this.
RedSoxNation Posted February 14, 2005 #5 Share Posted February 14, 2005 Aer Lingus is just fine. They used to be much better but just like every other airline they have cut back on perks etc but I have flown them many times and they are a good airline. I wouldn't put them in the class of British Airways but if you're looking for a decent flight at a good price go for it.
