ronnie64 Posted June 3, 2010 #1 Share Posted June 3, 2010 Is a drivers license sufficient to purchase online tickets for pisa tower? Don't really want to carry passport. Anyone know?
euro cruiser Posted June 3, 2010 #2 Share Posted June 3, 2010 I don't remember being asked for ID at all - all I did was show my print out from the internet site at the office where you pick up the tickets.
ronnie64 Posted June 3, 2010 Author #3 Share Posted June 3, 2010 The website says...The tourist must show the cashier the same document that appears in the voucher. The choices are "passport" or "identity card" with numbers required for each. Wasn't sure if a driver's license would be considered an "identity card" in Italy as I seem to think they have a specific identity card there. euro cruiser Posted June 3, 2010 #4 Share Posted June 3, 2010 Hmm, I believe you that it says so, but the last two times I was there (July 2009 and January 2007) I don't remember being asked for ID to pick up the tickets. Could be my memory, however. Just use your driver's license, I use mine as ID in Italy all the time. (Actually, I use an expired one, they never notice.) RJHNorthyorks Posted June 3, 2010 #5 Share Posted June 3, 2010 We were there 2 years ago and although I carried my passport I wasn't asked for it.

epixx Posted June 4, 2010 #7 Share Posted June 4, 2010 We were there last summer, and I used my driver's license without problem.
ActiveTraveler Posted June 6, 2010 #8 Share Posted June 6, 2010 Hmm, I believe you that it says so, but the last two times I was there (July 2009 and January 2007) I don't remember being asked for ID to pick up the tickets. Could be my memory, however. Just use your driver's license, I use mine as ID in Italy all the time. (Actually, I use an expired one, they never notice.) Enough time has passed since then for one possibility to be they changed the rules so now you need your passport or driver's liscense to get in. Now that is an interesting idea: Bring your last driver's liscense, not the one you use to drive, so if it gets lost you won't panic about trying to replace it. But if you do that could an identity thief do something bad with it even if he/she does not know English?
daryleann Posted June 7, 2010 #9 Share Posted June 7, 2010 Since all advice is to take a photo copy of your passport page and carry that NOT your passport, you should have it to use as ID. Works whenever we go... [good for senior rates on the HOHO also ;)]
ronnie64 Posted June 7, 2010 Author #10 Share Posted June 7, 2010 Glad to hear the copy has worked for you! I really want to leave the passports safely onboard--besides safety, it is a little less bulky.
sultan_sfo Posted June 7, 2010 #11 Share Posted June 7, 2010 Casino at Monte Carlo will not accept a photo copy of passport -- must have passport or DL!
