swifty Posted June 5, 2010 #1 Share Posted June 5, 2010 Does anyone know what the total per minute charge for using a Mobal World Phone on the Ruby Princess in the Mediterranean would be? I'm very confused about this.
~Scott Posted June 9, 2010 #2 Share Posted June 9, 2010 Hi Swifty It's $1.95 per minute to receive calls and $3.95 per minute to make outgoing calls. The onboard network is called MCP. When you're near shore, you might be able to pickup the local phone networks, which will be cheaper. My Mobal phone works great on the Med by the way! Hope that helps. Scott :)
swifty Posted June 9, 2010 Author #3 Share Posted June 9, 2010 Thanks Scott. I didn't think I'd ever get an answer to this question. Looks like I'll be getting a Mobal.

~Scott Posted June 10, 2010 #5 Share Posted June 10, 2010 Yes, thats the only charge that you'll get. The ship's fees are charged to Mobal, not us. I assume that's why we pay higher Mobal rates to use our phones on cruise ships compared to using them on land - because they have to pass on the extra fees that they get from the cruise ships.. scranger Posted June 10, 2010 #6 Share Posted June 10, 2010 Yes, thats the only charge that you'll get. Depending on which credit card you use for your Mobal charges, you may also incur foreign transaction fees, since the charges are originated in the UK (your Mobal number is actually a UK number). For this reason, we have ours billed to our CapitalOne card, which charges no FT fees.
