zachnlucy Posted February 4, 2005 #1 Share Posted February 4, 2005 We will be leaving Talkeetna in the morning, early September, and our return flight from Anchorage does not leave until 10:00 pm. We will have a rental car and are looking for a nice day drive. I've heard that Glenn Highway is a beautiful drive. Would that be the best drive to take? It's the scenery (and possible wildlife) we want to enjoy.
aussie jb Posted February 4, 2005 #2 Share Posted February 4, 2005 I found the Glenn Highway a lot more scenic than any other while driving in Alaska, but I really don't think you're going to get that far when you're driving down from Talkeetna
Budget Queen Posted February 4, 2005 #3 Share Posted February 4, 2005 Don't count on wildlife, but certainly a scenic drive. If of interest- consider a glacier trek with MICA guides. With an early start- have a Roadhouse breakfast. :) You could be in Anchorage by evening, but do plan on being at the airport about 2 hours in advance of your flight, it is very congested and long lines are NOT uncommon, especially when you are going, I have been behind hunters and fisherman, bring massive coolers on board, one man had a 350 lb. cargo. :)
zachnlucy Posted February 4, 2005 Author #4 Share Posted February 4, 2005 If of interest- consider a glacier trek with MICA guides. Where could I find more information on this?
zachnlucy Posted February 5, 2005 Author #5 Share Posted February 5, 2005 Which is better and why? Now we're all psyched to do a glacier hike on our last day in Alaska.
Budget Queen Posted February 5, 2005 #6 Share Posted February 5, 2005 http://micaguides.com/ I have not gone with NOVA, but they are long established and get good reviews. I went with MICA having an excellent 4 hour trek of which I highly recommend, my opinion only.
hooked-on-travel Posted February 5, 2005 #7 Share Posted February 5, 2005 We went with Nova in '03. We did their package where we went glacier trekking in the morning and river rafting in the afternoon. We had a great time, too, but haven't taken MICA for comparison. Maybe flip a coin? Budget Queen Posted February 6, 2005 #9 Share Posted February 6, 2005 I did a 4 hour trek. Plenty of rest stops and an excellent guide! But I had a private tour, I'd have been out run with most trekkers probably. :)
