ccruisequeen Posted June 18, 2010 #26 Share Posted June 18, 2010 We care that RCI has abandoned the West Coast market. We'll manage with Princess, the occasional Paradise weekend jaunt and maybe even HAL. Not to mention going to some places on land that we kept putting off in favor of cruising. I was just thinking yesterday how much I miss my second home, Monarch.:( hOLLAND AMERICA doesn't sail out of LA (at least RT). Look at their itineraries- most are either through San Diego, San Francisco or Seattle.
Jolimont Posted June 18, 2010 #27 Share Posted June 18, 2010 Sadly, if the BP oil disaster continues and has the devastating consequences some warn about, RCI and other cruise lines may have to pull their ships out of some ports in the Gulf of Mexico, which would make southern Cal an attractive again. calmpets Posted June 18, 2010 #28 Share Posted June 18, 2010 I'm a little surprised more people aren't jumping onto DCL, since it will be the only game in town in 2011. They just had a Kids Sail Free offer (may still be going on) for people sailing January to March, so sales must be lower than anticipated.

Nanaimobound Posted June 18, 2010 #30 Share Posted June 18, 2010 We are very sad at everyone leaving the west Coast as well. Princess pulling out of San Francisco was a hard one to deal with, and now Mariner. I am glad I have the opportunity to sail on her before she leaves. the situation with the Airlines these days, being such a complete hassle and no customer service to speak of, leaves us reluctant to fly to a port of departure. Not to mention the added cost of travel. I am thinking we are going to be taking a lot more road trip vacations in the future. California is a beautiful state with a lot to offer that we haven't done because we cruise.
NavarreCruiser Posted June 20, 2010 #31 Share Posted June 20, 2010 Lynda, how long is the Splendor staying?? I believe that Carnival will only have one ship on the West Coast next year, but may be wrong. If any company will come back first, I feel that it will be Carnival. They have a way of domineering certain areas. Let us see how well all of the RCCL ships do over in the Med next summer. I think that there will be 11 of them. The economy over there is hurting as well. And to the person that mentioned violence in Mexico, I have been going down there for some time, and have not experienced any type of violence in any of the Mexican Riviera ports that we continually go to. Rick Sorry I didn't get back sooner. I have no idea how long the Splendor will be in LA. We are booked in September and John Heald is going to be the cd from August til his vacation near the end of the year. Thanks, Lynda.

I was speaking of West Coast ports, not just LA.:) I'm a little surprised more people aren't jumping onto DCL, since it will be the only game in town in 2011. And, even though I've heard they have plenty of "sanctuary" areas for adults, since I'm not very kid-friendly the idea of sailing on Disney doesn't have a great deal of appeal to me. skandls Posted June 21, 2010 #34 Share Posted June 21, 2010 I am sad to see the Mariner leave Los Angeles. We flew to Orlando and took our own preview cruise while she was still based in Orlando. We were looking forward to several cruises a year as we would not have to fly. Disney - NO for us - cartoon characters and kidlets are not what we look for in a cruise. Carnival - OK but please find a new decorator - your color schemes and decor are really bad.

Just curious, skandls: how many times did you sail on the Mariner in 2009? in 2010? Inquiring minds want to know. ;) :)
