apkpcruisers Posted June 20, 2010 #26 Share Posted June 20, 2010 Once on board we find out cabin, and head out for a tour of the ship. We take pictures of most parts of the ship, then back to the cabin in hopes out bags are there:)
Set Free Posted June 20, 2010 #27 Share Posted June 20, 2010 Hello, Once in our cabin, my wife and I would hug one another and jump up and down! We did this on each one of our 28 cruises except for the last one, in March of 2010. She was hurting too much from cancer. She is gone now but I will always remember that crazy hug and dance we would do. Oh Fred - That is so beautiful and I'm so sorry about the loss of your wife. You must have been married a long and glorious time and it's wonderful that you both acted like kids up to the end. ((HUGS)) We've only taken one cruise but we went right to the room, unpacked a tiny bit then went up for some food. It was about an hour later that we left the pier and we were in the lounge that had the best view outside - and had easy access to get to the very top of the ship. It was lovely. pizzadog Posted June 20, 2010 #31 Share Posted June 20, 2010 just curious to see what the first thing everyone does as soon as they board the ship? We generally don't get on the ship until the crowds have cleared out. Then we hit the Crows Nest for a wee drinkie - they are often not open for business yet but HAL always manages to find us a gin and tonic from somewhere!:):):)
boba Posted June 21, 2010 #32 Share Posted June 21, 2010  We get on board early and head for the buffet. We then sit there and call our kids to rub their noses in it.

okgirl Posted June 21, 2010 #36 Share Posted June 21, 2010 Stop at the lobby bar for a Bloody Mary Go to the Lido and the aft pool/bar area for a piece of pizza/ceasar salad and another Bloody Mary Go to the Casino and set up our Players Bank (you don't have to wait until the Casino is open) Stop at the Casino bar and see if any of our favorite bartenders are there and have another Bloody Mary (are you getting that we like Bloody Mary's :p ) Somewhere along the way we might stop at our cabin to see if we can drop our carry-on stuff (we're usually on the ship by 11:30) Go back down to the lobby to people watch until it's time for sail away which we usually do from the exterior deck 3 on the pier side of the ship. UandMe4Ever Posted June 21, 2010 #38 Share Posted June 21, 2010 What a sweet remembrance, lucky you, lucky her. I'm so sorry for you terrible loss! Perhaps it will be calming to you to remember fondly the way you started each of your cruises. Funny my DH do that as well.. Big hugs soon as we enter the room and say "Are we really here". Hope we can do it for many years to come in good health. Glad you got to enjoy 28 cruises with you wife!!! Rely on your memories....It will get you through! Bless you and stay safe and well. My little brother never got to cruise, though both of us said we would some day back when we watched Love Boat every week. He has been gone 15 years tomorrow, and since he will never cruise...Well anyway, that is what he and I used to do every Christmas morning. I love the happy jump!! :o
suezyq50 Posted June 21, 2010 #40 Share Posted June 21, 2010 We usually explore the ship while it's still relatively empty, then have lunch in the buffet, then check our dining assignment to make sure it's suitable. On RCI ships with a promenade, we usually attend the cruise Expo at 2pm, sample some of the specialty restaurant foods, enter the raffles, etc. While we've never won, the people we were traveling with won a free excursion and a free spa treatment. We also have lunch. I will have to pay attention to the Expo listing. Sounds like a good thing to take in.
romnan Posted June 22, 2010 #41 Share Posted June 22, 2010 It all depends if it's a new ship We do a little roaming around.Check out seating assignments in the MDR, get a little to eat in the WJ. If it's a ship we have been on before, just chill out until our rooms are open:)
jean s Posted June 22, 2010 #42 Share Posted June 22, 2010 We usually take our time and board a little later. We unpack if the luggage has arrived and get ourselves organized. Then we wander around the ship ending up at a bar to get something to toast the sailaway.
Luv2Kruize Posted June 22, 2010 #43 Share Posted June 22, 2010 We also board early to avoid any lines at check-in. That is also a great time to explore the ship and take pictures before it gets crowded. We do not carry much on so getting right to our rooms is not a big deal. I love the Cafe Promenade so that is one of the first places we go to!
95south Posted June 22, 2010 #44 Share Posted June 22, 2010 Get a drink with a lot of rum and fruit juice, top deck, and watch the land disappear in the distance and know my vacation has started (would love to toss the cell phone into the sea). DebbiD13 Posted June 23, 2010 #45 Share Posted June 23, 2010 If the rooms are open: I drop off my luggage. If not, I grab lunch then head to MDR to make sure we got a table for two, and then to speciality restaurants to make reservations. If you can't drop your luggage off at your room, where do you store it while grabbing lunch and doing other things?
Set Free Posted June 23, 2010 #46 Share Posted June 23, 2010 If you can't drop your luggage off at your room, where do you store it while grabbing lunch and doing other things? You keep it with you. We're not talking your suitcases and stuff - the stuff that you check will be brought to your room. They are talking about the carry-on stuff. ariawoman Posted June 23, 2010 #48 Share Posted June 23, 2010 Awesome story! Tell you what, we'll make a point of hugging and jumping in your (and your wife's) honor as soon as we board our February cruise. :) This is a great idea! If i get to go on a cruise this fall, I need to do this too. :-) Fred's wife is watching!
