June 19-26 Live on Oasis

Recommended Posts

There are various specials during the week. I'll keep my cruise compasses and try to list them out when we get home. (unless you are leaving Saturday - are you?)

Yes, we are but please don't go crazy as long as I know that they run specials I am happy! Should I go to the spa the first day or wait for better specials?? Thanks so much!!!! :D

We are cruising the finals week of the World Cup. Some people have said that it shows in the Aqua Theater screens, but are they showing it at any of the sports' bars? stateroom tv's?
They also show it on Channel 42 of your stateroom TV and the Globe & Atlas pub. We got to watch the US vs Algeria at Sunset Bar & Grill at Maho Beach yesterday. Pretty cool.

Looking real quick

Day 1 - book and receive a spa signature treatment today and receive a complimentary upgrade.

Day 4 - 20/20/20 - Choose any 3 20-min treatments for $119 (or $199 - data conflicts in the Compass)

Day 5 - Ladies' Night - $99 for neck, shoulder & scalp massage, foot & ankle massage, mini facial and use of the Thermal Suite (normally $30/day or $90/entire cruise). Also includes champagne.

That's really all I see that are obvious specials. There are other prices throughout the week, but I can't tell that the pricing is lower than normal.

I would recommend booking online ahead of time, then visiting the spa when you arrive and possibly change your appt if there is a special that fits you.

Richard's the cruise director? We must have just missed him on our June 5th cruise. :( He's my favorite CD by far, and was hoping to get lucky enough to have Ken Rush hand things over to him earlier. I guess we'll just have to book another cruise...

Do you know if he will be staying on the Oasis for a few weeks? We sail on July 3rd.

I heard that last week they were both onboard. This week it's just Richard. I think he's at the start of his new contract, so he should be here for 4-8 months. He is lots of fun.

Today's spa specials:

Mani/pedi - receive a free upgrade

Men only - combine 3 services for $89. Choose from express shave, hand & arm massage, neck & shoulder massage, scalp massage, foot & ankle massage, deep cleansing facial, men's hair cut.

Last night's formal night was nice. We noticed that it seemed people were dressed fancier than the first night.

It was prime rib and lobster night. I guess those were ok (two people at our table got them), but my scallops and ziti was horrible.

We saw the comedy show, which was pretty good but went by very fast. Then we went to "twenty" at the solarium. I liked this event on both ships because I like to watch the "hourglass" ladies. If you've seen them, you know what I'm talking about. Sorry, I didn't take any pictures.

We have noticed that the activities are getting more crowded and lines are getting very long at the flow rider, rock wall and zip line yesterday and today. I assume everyone waited until the last couple of days to try everything out, thinking they had all the time in the world.

Ship's photographers are great, as usual. The binder indexing system works very well. We will go buy our photos later tonight.

Susan, thanks for your live post! We appreciate it! I just have a couple of last minute questions:

1. Can you find out just how long Richard Spacey is actually on board? We sail on 10/2 and so if it's 4 months we'll miss him, but if it's 8 months he'll still be there. I'd love to know for sure! (We've had Ken Rush on our last three cruises so it would be nice to see someone else for a change.)

Oh, duh...I just counted again and realized that even if it's 4 months he'd still be there on 10/2 I think...but if you could confirm that would be great. Thanks!

2. I'd love to hear what your 18 year old thinks of the cruise...my son will be 18 on our cruise in October and it will be the first time he won't be in the teen/kids club. I'd like to know if your daughter thought there was plenty to do as an 18 year old.

Oh...and one last thing...can you confirm which cafe on board has the tiramisu cups? :)

Magsi and others; we sailed on the Oasis June 5th; if you can, get your child the Live the Oasis book; that will keep them busy; our 14-year old really enjoyed doing this; he didn't want to do much this time around; stayed on our balcony reading most days; he is very introverted and doesn't do the teen clubs; when I would walk by the Arcade it always looked busy; we brought a friend for our 19-year old; this is a very awkward age on a cruise ship; with a friend along they had a blast; they said their favorite club was where the jazz musicians were playing and they went several times; I wish I could say the same about our June 5th sailing; everyone enjoy!

We are back onboard after St Martin.

Chops was wonderful last night. The filets were the best we have had, and as compared to Austin restaurants, only comparable to Ruths Chris in our opinions. Appetizers and sides were wonderful as well. We were all too full for dessert. It was a great choice.

Qwest was a lot of fun for all of us. Kellye in our party was on one of the teams. My husband was in one of the Qwests as one of the shortest men in our section, and he got some attention for that (won't give away details here because I don't want to spoil it for others).

We found all the people last night. After dinner around 11pm, there were approximately 6125 people in the casino. :)

I don't remember if I mentioned this, but I have a recommendation. Yesterday, the ship arrived in St Thomas at 9am. We ordered a selection of breakfast items from room service to be delivered by 8:30 and we all sat out on our balcony eating breakfast as the ship pulled into port. This was a really neat experience.

Still nothing on Balloon Boy. I am off to the Flow Rider now.

That's a great idea to have breakfast on the patio as you are pulling into port. I wonder what could have happened to balloon boy? I'll keep checking back. Sounds like you had a wonderful dinner too. We are always too stuffed for dessert at these specialty restaurants. What we've done when we are too full for the dessert is have them wrap up something and we take it back to our room steward. It has always been a hit w/the room steward. Have fun!

Hi all,

We are also on this ship this week. Sadly, we are at the end of the cruise. I can answer a few questions.

The hotel manager told me that this is Richard's ship now. Ken Rush has gone onto the Allure and Richard will be the cruise director from now on (except when he is on vacation). He is out there, but certainly has lots of energy and the crowd seemed to really enjoy him.

On one night there were several young ladies who celebrated their quincentera (sorry wrong spelling). Ivan in the salon told me that he did several of their hair and we saw many getting their picture taken on the Royal Promenade.

In addition to being scratched, the balloon man broke when someone climbed on it for a picture. It will be back in a few weeks.

Will write more when I return home.

Mary

Awww man...I wasn't going to do Chops because I figured it was just another overpriced steak. But if you can honestly compare it to Ruths Chris, we'll have to go!

We are sailing on the September 25th cruise and Royal Caribbean emailed me and said Ken Rush would be the CD on our cruise. So, not sure how real the 4-8 month thing is or if maybe this would be Richard's vacation week.

Susan thank you for taking the time from your vacation. :-)

You are an EXCELLANT reporter!

QUESTION:

Please tell me, On Sunday Night, you were in Nassua....it was Formal Night.

I have my First Time Cruiser Brother and his wife joining us..... I rally want them to Meet the Captain and get a photo.

We have 6:00 PM Dining.....

Was this event or dining times 'different' so everyone could attend?

How did that work?

Thanks again Susan!

hi, great!

thanks for posting while on board Oasis. Its great to read as its happening. Good to hear Oasis of Dreams was on last night as i heard it was cancelled the day before? Do you have any photos of the show? My son is one of the divers and we are hanging for some pics of him:) Have you been to any of the other shows? Are you on Western or Eastern cruise? Im going in August - did you book your shows etc online before you went or did you do it on board?Did you find out abt the film crew?Glad you are having a great time - but yes very strange about no people the first night - maybe they were all too tired from all of the excitement of going on board :) look forward to your next installment.

You might want to try clicking on my link below of my Oasis photos. I loaded the last four minutes of Oasis of Dreams on my video area. He may be on there.:)

Walt fan ~ I was given a copy of Live the Oasis... It's Awesome! For ANYONE! It walks you around the ship explaining what you're seeing..... "to your right you will notice ...."

I think one of your first stops might be the shop to Buy one... and Do the tour. Then you'll have seen the WHOLE SHIP. :-)

LOL MCFaddensfarm~ you have to have your priorities! :-)

Ha RenieRaider! Yeah, my son fell in love with them on Liberty and was asking me if they still had them on Oasis. I've heard they do but was hoping to find out where ahead of time so we don't have to search every little cafe to find them. ;)

I'm also not sure about the 4-8 month contract thing. I got it from two sources: reading the book Cruise Confidential, and talking to various staff onboard the ship, who said their contracts are 4-8 months.

No problem and thanks for the compliment!

Yes, Sunday night was the Captain's Gala and Thursday night was Steak and Lobster formal night.

Sunday night had pictures with the Captain from 7:15 - 8pm on the Royal Promenade. This was followed by the Captain's Welcome Aboard Reception from 7:30 to 8:15, also in the Royal Promenade (and maybe you can take candid photos with him there?), and the Captain's Welcome Speech from Rising Tide Bar at 8:15pm. We missed all of these.

We bought the book too on Day 2. It comes with 2 lanyards, and as you complete the clues for each of the trails, you can collect buttons to go on your lanyards. There are also trivia contests related to the book throughout the week. What a great idea for a gift! Unfortunately, we never got to do any of the trails or solve any of the clues. We were so focused on the Flow Rider and meeting for dinner with the family each night.

world cup will be everywhere
Yes, after this question, I noticed that it was everywhere there were TVs. There were lots of people watching at the On Air club, both inside and outside. They have numerous TVs outside the venue that can be easily seen from the chairs and tables at the Mondo Coffee Bar. Lots of people were watching the games from there.

Oh...and one last thing...can you confirm which cafe on board has the tiramisu cups? :)

Not sure about how long Richard is onboard. But I remember before we left, I found a thread on Cruise Critic that had a link to a document that listed all the cruise directors for upcoming sailings for all RCCL ships. For some reason it rings in my memory that this is something available to D+ members. I looked for it before we left and couldn't find the thread.

Katie loved the cruise, especially with having a friend onboard. It was problematic that Caitlin couldn't enter many of the 18+ venues. Sometimes Caitlin would be doing something else and Katie would stop by Blaze, "twenty", and once I took her to the casino. They cannot drink alcohol on the ship, but they are legal drinking age at all three ports. The suggestion for the Live the Oasis book is a good one. Our kids liked the book but didn't have time to do any trails. They also liked the hot tubs. Your boys might like the Flow Rider quite well. Also, I noticed that ALL the 18-year-old boys were ALWAYS at the basketball court. There are also pool and court volleyball and dodge ball on the basketball court.

After you asked about the tiramisu, I went looking for the cups. They weren't at Mondo Coffee Bar or Park Cafe at that time of day. They may have been at Cafe Promenade, but I didn't get a chance to look again. I know we saw them earlier in the week, and two of us thought they were at the Mondo Coffee Bar. All three of these are really convenient from almost anywhere on the ship.
