June 19-26 Live on Oasis

Recommended Posts

We're on the Oasis this week!

Any questions?

Did you dock on Port side or Starboard side in:

Nassau, St Thomas & St Maarten

What side of the ship is your cabin and would you choose that side again for the Eastern Caribbean?

Hi Susan on the Oasis of the Seas

Great to hear you are having a good time, just a couple of questions as we are going on the 10th July. The old question about clothes - what do people wear day and night please?

Also when are the formal nights usually held as we have already booked shows online and want to see if we need to change them.

We have an 11 year old do you think he will find plenty to do - any reviews on the kids clubs gratefully received.

One more - has anyone been to the other caribbean - Haiti, Cosumel and if so can you give me tips on which trips are the best for the three stops or if you can just get off and explore if there are things to do. I know about Labedee but not on the other two.

Many thanks and continue to have a great time!

Magsie

do you see any quinceaneras ( sweet 15) groups celerating .
I haven’t noticed any quinceneras that I know are celebrations. We had two weddings on departure day. I asked my daughter and she hasn’t seen any quinceneras either. We have seen many on prior cruises.

We have docked starboard side at every port. Our cabin is on the 9th deck just behind the first hump on the starboard side. We love it and would definitely choose it again!

We have also discovered it is really convenient to be in the center of the ship, although we tend to go forward more than aft because our girls are on Deck 10 forward in a CP view balcony.

Most people are in swimsuits and cover ups during the day. At night, we see a little bit of everything, from swimwear to nearly formalwear every night. I think this is because of all the various dining options and My Time Dining.

Formal nights for Eastern itineraries are Sunday and Thursday. If you have My Time Dining, you can eat at a time that doesn’t conflict with your scheduled shows.

We don’t have any kids as young as 11, but we brought twin 10-year-old boys on the Liberty of the Seas three years ago and they always found things to do. There is Adventure Ocean, but there is also so much more for the kids onboard.

We went to Labadee, Cozumel, and Grand Cayman on the Liberty as well. For Labadee, I would reserve a zip line run early (they sell out). We didn’t get to go but would have loved to have gone. The beaches in Labadee are nice, and we just had a nice day exploring and relaxing there. We returned to the ship early to ride the Flow Rider.

Grand Cayman, I have been to the turtle farm and on the stingray swim in the past. I liked the stingray tour. For the last trip, we just caught a cab to Seven Mile Beach and relaxed there all day. It is a beautiful beach.

Cozumel I recommend the dolphin excursion and just walking around town exploring, shopping and seeing the sights.

How old are the kids in your party? We're sailing with a 10 and 13 year-old in a couple of weeks.
I have an 18-year-old daughter and her 17-year-old friend.

Hi again, haha yesss I just spoke to my son and his stage name is mowgli. I ahve told him he has some admirers haha:)
I probably have pictures, but haven't uploaded any pics because the internet is so expensive. Let me see if I can find some quickly for you.

We are back onboard after St Martin.

Chops was wonderful last night. The filets were the best we have had, and as compared to Austin restaurants, only comparable to Ruths Chris in our opinions. Appetizers and sides were wonderful as well. We were all too full for dessert. It was a great choice.

Qwest was a lot of fun for all of us. Kellye in our party was on one of the teams. My husband was in one of the Qwests as one of the shortest men in our section, and he got some attention for that (won't give away details here because I don't want to spoil it for others).

We found all the people last night. After dinner around 11pm, there were approximately 6125 people in the casino. :)

I don't remember if I mentioned this, but I have a recommendation. Yesterday, the ship arrived in St Thomas at 9am. We ordered a selection of breakfast items from room service to be delivered by 8:30 and we all sat out on our balcony eating breakfast as the ship pulled into port. This was a really neat experience.

Still nothing on Balloon Boy. I am off to the Flow Rider now.

Thanks for all the info. My husband and I are celebrating our 30th anniversary and we are going on the Eastern cruise July 31st. Can't wait. We are really excited. We also booked all our shows on line. We are going to Chops one night. I do have a question, we booked the reservation at Chops on line and paid for it already but do you know if that includes the gratuity. I am not sure. Have a great time on the remainder of your cruise.

Here is a photo from Oasis of Dreams. It's the only one I found that might have Mowgli in it. I can't tell if he's there or not.

Yes it does, but you can give a little more if you think it's worth it. I'll usually leave $5 - $10 pp extra if I think they went out of their way to make it a special night (and they always have!).

And Happy Anniversary! :) Enjoy your cruise.

Thank you so much Susan for your live report. On previous posts many say that the ship rocks is this true? Have a great trip.
Yes, we have felt the ship quite a bit on this cruise. It surprises me because we really didn't feel it much on the Liberty of the Seas. I wonder if it's the weather.

Congrats on your anniversary! You'll have a great time. According to the Cruise Compass "$25 dining fee per person applies, gratuities included." However, we asked our server last night, just to be sure, and he kinda shrugged. I think it may be his way of getting more tips. But Chops was well worth the added $25 (even considering you have probably already paid nearly $75pp to dine in the dining room). We aren't too impressed with the dining room food quality.

I think they practice daily and the practice times are posted in the Compass. I will check the next couple of days and see if I can catch a couple of shots of him. I don't think there are any more shows this cruise.

How is the weather? I have been watching the weather and it seems like the storm is on the western side (booo...we are leaving on Saturday!). Any storms at Labadee?
It was beautiful until yesterday, then it was overcast. Today was very "tropical", about 80 degrees with on-and-off showers. The rain here is heavy showers, not thunder and lightning. We didn't mind the rain in St Martin after a hot day in St Thomas yesterday. Even in the rain, most onboard activities are still open (including Flow Rider). We didn't hit Labadee on this itinerary.

Thanks for the live post Susan, it's really fun to keep up with all you and family are doing.

As for the ship seeming deserted on the first night, we've always noticed that on our cruises. I think people are just pooped out from traveling or whatever and hit the bed early.

Amethyst365---hubba hubba Your son is gorgeous! Nice job creating such a beautiful man. Susan thanks for sharing the pic.

Happy sails to all

My husband asked about Balloon Man at the Boardwalk Bar. The bartender said he has gotten pretty scratched and dinged up and they have sent him off for repairs.

We left St Martin over an hour late today (after 6pm). I am not sure why, but I heard it might have been weather-related.

We've been following that "tiny" ship, the Carnival Dream, around all week. (just kidding) It's a beautiful ship as well.

Last night was 70's night and it was lots of fun on the Promenade and in Dazzles. We also saw the ice show, which was very good. There is a sand artist who is amazing.

Main Dining Room food is still mediocre. Not bad, but I couldn't say it's great.

Tip - if you want spa treatments, reserve early, online if possible, or at least the first day of the cruise. I couldn't get myself and my daughter in for massages.

2 days at sea! 2 days on the Flow Rider! Yay!

Do they have specials for massages during the week listed? They were up there in price on line, thanks so much!
There are various specials during the week. I'll keep my cruise compasses and try to list them out when we get home. (unless you are leaving Saturday - are you?)
