SEATAC to Pier 91 using light rail

We are arriving day before sailing. Would it make sense to take light rail to station downtown and stay at a nearby downtown hotel-then take taxi next morning to pier 91? Would this be a more cost effective option than staying at airport hotel and taking a taxi all the way to pier 91 the next day? Any hotel recommendations near the light rail? Is Pike's Market in walking distance from light rail?

Does anyone know a wine store in the downtown area near the light rail stop?

Welcome to the emerald city.

You will save a lot of money on the light rail vs. a cab/shuttle, but will that be eaten up by the downtown hotel cost? Unless you really want to experience the light rail or really want to stay downtown then it's a total cost thing and you'll have to do the math.

There are a number of hotels very close to the light rail. As a local, however, I don't ever stay in them - I just drive home! Frequent visitors to Seattle please speak up.

The Pike Place Market is definitely walking distance from the light rail. Don't take this walk late at night however.

In Washington wine is available in most grocery and large drug stores. Unless you wish the selection in a true wine shop then just visit a grocery or drug store. Ask the concierge for the nearest one. I believe that there is a wine shop in the Pike Place Market as well.

its so much better to stay downtown especially the day before the cruise. Check out Hotwire for rates in downtown pike place zone. Light rail will get you within walking distance of most downtown locations. Cab is very easy or search the forum for the $9 shuttle by shuttle express. The airport offers little in way of food or convenience to anything.

Speaking from experience, we used the light rail to Westlake then the monorail ($2 ow)to the Needle area and stayed at the Hampton Inn. Good hotel rate and there is a grocery store with a large wine selection 1 block away. We had rolling luggage so it was no problem. We actually checked in the hotel then took the monorail back to Westlake and walked to Pikes Market. FYI - Hampton Inn has a shuttle to Pier 91 at a cost of $7 pp. You just sign up at the desk.

Hope this information is helpful, but understand everyone has their own opinions.

Just back! Took the light rail from SEATAC to Westlake Center at $2.50 per person. Then took the monorail to Seattle Center $2.00 per person. Walked 4 blocks downhill to Homewood Suites on Western Ave. Only had a rolling suitcase.

The next morning took a shuttle for $5.00 per person from the hotel to Pier 91.

Coming back took a cab from Pier 91 to Westlake Center Light Rail Station at $12.50 + tip. Then took light rail to SEATAC for $2.50 per person.

Question 1- Is the connection from lightrail at Westlake to monorail convenient and easy to find?

Quesiton 2 - How much time did it take from Pier 91 using cab to Westlake and lightrail from Westlake to SEATAC? I do not want to cut it too close for flight just to save a little money.

Thanks for your help.

Question 1- Is the connection from lightrail at Westlake to monorail convenient and easy to find? Once you get off the light rail and go up the escalator, look for the monorail sign. It is easy to find.
