Need recommendations for a beach day

Will be in Nassau for one day in two weeks. Wanted to do a day pass at the Atlantis that included the beach. You can normally purchase those for $60; however due to the Atlantis being full this July they are not selling them and a similar pass is $145 via the ship. That is too much. Need recommendations for a beach day with a really nice beach. A beach where you could snorkel from shore would be a +. I will be with my Mom whom is in her 70s; she will not snorkel but will need a chair and an umbrella.

The sheraton at Cable Beach would do the trick.. ($25pp).

There's plenty of great information about the sheraton on this forum...check it out.

No way would I pay to use Atlantis Beach.. even at $60.. that's a stretch..

Ok thankyou, yes i agree the Sheraton or the Wyndham sound like the best choice. Here is what i found out as others may want to know:

Suggestion would be the Sheraton at Cable Beach. (Sheraton: 242-327-6000 Cable Beach) Day passes are $25 pp. Includes use of facilities, a chair and towel. There are 3 pools including swim up, zero entry and a water fall. Plenty of chairs, umbrellas and palapas.. Bar and grill. Poolside service. Snorkeling gear for snorkeling from the beach. Non-motorized water toys such as trikes, kayaks etc.. As well as well maintained beach, pools, restrooms etc.

Wyndham (242-327-6200 Cable Beach) day pass is $40 and includes buffet lunch, It's located next door to the Sheraton and have full privileges to both hotels.

Taxi (about $15) or the #10 jitney (1.25pp) will get you there in 10/15 minutes.

The Sheraton and Wyndham are adjacent hotels, joined by a casino. I understand that your day pass is reciprocal at both hotels. Personally, I think the Sheraton is the nicer of the two, and has more to offer. Lunch for 2....depending on how much and what it is you eat, could run you anywhere from $25 to $50 bucks. I do believe there is still a Sbarro's nearby where you might be able do have a quick and cheap lunch. If you are taking the Jitney bus, it's the #10, and you will need $1.25 exact change. The Jitney's stop running around 5.30-6.00. A taxi back to the docks might run $10 - $12 bucks or so.

Wyndham day pass includes lunch at their Seaside Buffet, which is pretty nice for lunch. A day pass from the Sheraton or Wyndham gives you access to the pools at both hotels and the beach. The two properties are connected. Can't comment on lunch prices at the Sheraton, but the pool at the Wyndham does have an outdoor grill at the pool and seating. Burgers, chicken sandwiches, wings, salads, appetizers, snacks, etc. And they gladly accept cash.

British Colonial Hilton</SPAN> Nassau Bahamas: $60.00 for day passes includes the use of the beach and pool, which also includes towels, lounge chairs and $30.00 credit that can go towards your food and beverage. Rates are ages 1 – 3 free, and anyone 4 yrs and over will pay full price. You can book in advance by calling the reservation desk (242)322-3301. We are located 10mins (walking) away from port.

I'm not recommending Breezes these days. It's been dirty lately, and the pool has been filthy and slimy. Maybe it's the weather.. but I can't recommend it at this time.

Could you go and take pictures of the Atlantis to say that you had seen it and then go to the Sheraton? Just a thought. We will be there in July also.

Sure, but they are in opposite directions from the port.

Sheraton is about 5 miles west of the port.

Atlantis is located on Paradise Island, about 2 miles to the northeast, on another island (connected by bridges)

Atlantis will be packed solid in July..

Without a day pass, you cannot go out on the grounds or see the lagoons/slides/ pools etc.. except what you can see from the lobbies.

Security is throughout the property checking bracelets.

Quite honestly, I wouldn't waste my time.

You mentioned that The Atlantis will be too busy in July and will sell out of day passes. How about August. I was looking to save a little money by booking a day pass directly and not going through the ship excursions. Do you know about August?

It's still the same old overpriced tourist pit.

It's the same beach as Cabbage Beach.. except Cabbage beach wasnt' swept away this winter.. and still has a sandy bottom. Atlantis main beach has a coral rock base these day.. I wouldn't spend a dime to use the beach there..

They stop selling day passes when they are at 75/80% capacity. The hotel is not sold out.. but the day passes are not available for day trippers.

There are still plenty rooms available at both Atlantis and Comfort;)

When you say a coral rock base? Is this going to be hard on your feet? We booked a shore excursion in Cozumel two years ago and the beach was rocky, people's feet were bleeding from the rockiness of it.

When you book the Comfort Inn, can you do that before leaving or do you have to just book it when you get there and what does it entitle access to?

if you are looking to book the Comfort suites you need to do it in advance as rooms book up quickly. Each room entitle full access to Atlantis, the same as if you had booked the royal, coral or beach towers.

Each room allows up to 4 paid guests.

As for the coral base.. we had a stormy season recently, and lost a huge section of the main Atlantis beach... it cleared everything.. right down to the bedrock.. As the beach is recovering, the bed rock is still quite evident under you feet as the tide goes out.

I've see quite a few people with bruised knees and feet heading back to the cruiseships. It will take some time for nature to build up a healthy base again.

There are other sections of beach that you can use if you are a paid guest or have a full day pass. Cove beach was not affected.

Is it necessary to buy the day passes in advance? I am toying between the Colonial Hilton and the Sheraton. Seems convenient to just walk to the Hilton but the Sheraton looks nicer ---Scubagirrl can you help?

no need to purchase in advance. Although the hilton is $5 cheaper, i think, if purchased in advance, but then if you have a rain day your sunk.

Hilton is quiet and relaxing, not a resort feel. Sheraton is a true resort. 3 pools, beaches, jetskis etc. depends on what you are looking for.

Lots of good info Scubagirl and Astridwilson--

Will be in Nassau week of July 19th (can't remember which day), first time there, 25th wedding anniversary and first cruise just the two of us, usually cruise with family.

We are looking for a nice beach, prefer inclusive of drinks. Understand Breezes is not in good form these days. Sheraton sounds nice and we are Starwood Preferred Guests, but do you have a recommendation other than Breezes that might be inclusive of drinks?

Well, I called both yesterday (Monday the 5th). Comfort Inn has no rooms, Atlantis has rooms ($578). They told me that they had not received notice that that would not sell day passes for the day I would be going (The 14th), That could change.

If you know of a way for me to get a room at the Comfort, please let me know!!! blant9@hotmail.com

RIU on Cabbage Beach (next to Atlantis) is an all-inclusive. It has a nice beach and a pool with swim-up bar. It's a small property and there's not a lot of activity so it's good for a quieter, relaxing day. They had a band playing by the pool in the afternoon. The swim-up bar was popular. My husband and I went there in April and really enjoyed it. It was $100 a person and included buffet lunch, all the drinks we wanted and towels.

I was going to spend $$$ to go to Blue Lagoon for only two hours. But now after reading reviews of Cable Beach I think it's the better way to spend my time and $$$...Sounds like a beautiful beach...Now, when and how do I go about buying the day passes, and how is the best way to get there, bus or taxi??? I'm just looking to relax as we have no stop on the cruises private island so this will do...Thanks

If I buy a day pass at Sheraton, does that also include access to Wyndham? or is it just the other way around? (Buy a pass at Wyndham and get access to Sheraton)

Also, do the pools close at a certain hour? We'll be there 12 to 7. (leaving Saturday!)

Can anyone confirm this....?

What is the best way to know when the jitney stops runnning at the end of the day?

We are in port 11-10pm. No real need to hurry back to the ship, what is the typoical cost of a taxi back to the ship if the jitney stops running?
