Drinks in casino

There will be NO "free" drinks in the casino on a ship (unless it's a true "luxury" line, where alcohol is included!)

Folks who gamble thousands may get a comped drink or two, but then, that's hardly "free" either, is it?

Vegas gives you drinks to keep you in their casino.....where else will you gamble on a ship? They have no incentive to give you anything (and that includes decent odds!)

Casino at Sea Its offered on NCL You can sign up when you go to casino, no charge. You'll get a card to use when you play, either in slots or give to boss at table games. If you are new to CAS, you will get a card for free drinks when you hit a cetain number of points. Can't remember what the exact number is. At end of cruise you may get money off your bill depending on your play (must go to casino cage on your last night)

After thet cruise, you may call CAS directly to book. You"ll get at a discount on the cruise (or maybe a comped cruise :) ) and there will be a card in your stateroom for the drinks.I think it's the best comps of all the lines . Remember, play for fun not to get the comps!

Linda lame, even in small mainland casinos here you get free drinks, even some free snacks, it should be free on a cruise ship IMO, well maybe on a cruise it's not something people will spend a lot of time with hence they don't give out free drinks.

Actually NCL does put out a nice snack buffet in their casino (at least on the ships I was on) which I thought was a nice touch & unexpected. As far as free drinks, the above poster is correct in that people were just coming into the casino, sitting on a stool, not really playing but trying to get free drinks (maybe they'd put a couple bucks in the machine and then just sit there until waiter came over then pretend to play). In any event, besides for losing money on serving free alcohol to those non-players, the casino really doesn't want non-players taking up seats either so they were pretty smart to stop just giving free drinks automatic to anyone in the casino. The gamblers who "pay" for them through their slot play deserve the free drinks

Almost no one is going to go into a mainland casino just for the purpose of sitting around long enough to get a free drink. On the other hand, the casino on the ship is right in the middle of all the restaurant/night club action so people might well be tempted to waste a few minutes in the casino so they could pick up a drink and then go to dinner or a show.

I just got back from a Royal Caribbean cruise and did not get free drinks while I'm playing, like I did in Las Vegas and other casinos like West Virginia and Kansas City. The drinks cost the same regardless of where on the ship....pool bar, etc. I commented that there should have been free drinks while I'm gambling but they said its different from Las Vegas.

I wonder how much revenue the cruise lines earn from their casinos? The security seems a lot less tight than at land casinos.

On our last two Carnival cruises my wife and I have received more free drinks in the casino (15 to 20 drinks per cruise) then we did on tour 15 previous cruises.

We are not high rollers by any means. We do spend alot of time in the casino. My wife play 25c slots and dollar roulette and I play craps and roulette.

What we have learned is to make friends with the casino host, manager, dealers, and pit bosses. They know our names and we know there's. We have fun and interact with other players and with them.

So for us, it comes down to being friendly and having fun with the players and workers and it seems to work for us.

You have to book thru CAS to get the free drink card. You can only book thru them if you have completed at least 1 cruise using your CAS playes card Or, after you reach a certain number of points while on your cruise (not sure the number) they will then give you the card

You also get the card if you book through Harrah's (which you can do even if you've never sailed on NCL before).

Do the points you earn using CAS only apply to that cruise? Or do they accumulate over time...if so do they expire?

The points are valid for 18 months and will carry over to the next cruise. If you don't book through Harrah's or Casino's at Sea you can get a free drink card after you earn 1500 points. Just cruised on the Norwegian Jewel and that's the way it was.

This has been our experience on Carnival cruises. My DH is an avid craps player, but in no way a high roller! I will play, or just cheer, depending on my mood. We view it as entertainment and since we will be spending time every evening with the dealers/pit boss, we introduce ourselves just as we would to our waiters at dinner or our cabin stewart. We talk and joke with players/dealers and just kinda keep the party atmosphere going around the craps table. The more people playing, the more fun for us, the more money the casino makes! After a few nights, we normally are offered at least one or two free drinks a night. Also, save your drink receipts from the casino. I don't remember the details, DH always takes care of it, but you get free credit on your players card the last night if you turn in your drink receipts from the casino bar. This includes any drinks they serve you while playing, because they come from the casino bar.

My last 3 cruises have been on NCL, and I budget myself $50 a day in the casino. No I am not a big spender. Playing the slots, my thru-put has me leaving the ship with over $2500 worth of play, which entitles me to a rebate the last night of the cruise. The cruise line/ casino, credits your room charges based on your play, and you do not lose those points for your next cruise as long as it is within 12 months of your previous sailing. You can carry over points for 18 months. You must inform the casino host of your previous cruises, so they can transfer your P&L from them. I went to the casino host on my last NCL cruise and was given a drink card from the first night, even though my play did not warrant a discount or comped room on future cruises. ASK, they will not offer anything unless you ask for it. My first cruise, I had 2500 points and until I asked about the rewards, paid for my drinks on board. Drank in the casino for free, the waiters/waitresses don't liketo see those cards. Last night was sweet, I hit a $5 slot for a couple 1000 and hit a few numbers straight up on roulette. Get to know the casino Host/Hostess it pays in the long run.
