How far is Civitavecchia from Florence? How far is Milan from Civitavecchia?

Would we be able to tour Florence/and or Tuscany after our cruise ends direct from Civitavecchia by train or would we have to return to Rome? If we decide to do Milan and the Italian lakes region would we have to go to Milan via Rome also? Thanks!

Contrary to the saying, not all roads lead to Rome, even if most do!

You can get to Florence from Civitavecchia by train either through Rome or Pisa.

The Rome route will be faster (best case two hours and forty five minutes) and more expensive (Euro 48,50 or 56,50 in second class). The Pisa route takes between four to four and a half hours, but costs only Euro 17,15 - 28,89 (both second class fares).

Both routes require a change of trains, so there's no savings there.
