Century Sky Suites

Does anyone know if there are differences between the sky suites on the sports deck and those on the panorama deck on the Century? I'm sure I'd be happy in either but just wondering if one is slightly larger or has different features than the other.

We are booked into a Sky Suite on the Sports deck for our cruise on the Century Jan 22/05. From information I obtained on this message board, the balconys on the Sports deck are much bigger than those on the Penthouse deck. I don't believe that there are Sky Suites on the Panorama deck.

ThanksTim,

yes I meant the penthouse deck. It's been a long week and I guess I'm just having a stupid day.

Thanks for the input. I'm booked in a sky suite on sports deck on Oct2,2004 so if I find any big differences I'll let the board know when I get back.

Have you taken the virtual tour on the Celebrity website? It shows a good shot of the Sky Suite balcony on the Sports deck.

Hi everyone. We're booked in a sky suite on the sports deck for the May 1st cruise. According to the 2004 brochure, the sports deck verandas are 142 sq. ft. and those on the penthouse deck are 69 sq. ft. That's quite a difference - I read somewhere on another thread that those on the sports deck are huge, with enoough room to entertain guests. They have two chaise loungers with a small side table plus two upright chairs and another table big enough for dining. Sounds good to me. I'll report back after my cruise and let you know what I think!

tlm, I did check out the celebrity site virtual tour but you get the same pictures for the sky suite wether on sport deck or penthouse (at least I did when I tried), And if you look at the inside part of the cabin it looks the same for any suite with balcony. Maybe they are the same but, from past experience, I know that sometimes they just use a generic type of picture for all suites and cover themselves by putting in small print somewhere that actual cabins may differ from the picture.

cfk2439,

I will eagerly await your report both for the size of the suite and if the 'butler service' is really something special or just sort of a gimmick.

Gardencat,

Our TA told us that the only difference between the suite with veranda and the sky suite is the size of the veranda. All the suites on the penthouse deck have the same size veranda; only the sports deck sky suites have the larger veranda.

I'll be sure to let you know about the butler service when we return.

My research indicated that the Sky suites had the larger veranda, although one could not decipher that from the Celebrity literature and various travel agencies. I finally found an on line travel agency that showed virtual pictures of the difference (if I find it again, I'll post it) which then prompted me to move my cabin from the Penthouse deck to the Sports Deck for a June 19 cruise. I had probably made about six phone calls to confirm this and had to speak with a Celebrity customer service manager to eventually get confirmation. It was frustrating, at the time, that this information was either not known or not shared.

Only the SS on the Sky deck have the larger verandah, with the exception of 1200 and 1201. The other SS are shorter in length. The SS on the sports deck are huge and have a portion that is uncovered. The noise is minimal from above and the location is great. The cabin size is exactly the same, the only difference is the deck size, which is twice as large...it is almost the size of the cabin. As all SS cost the same, your best bet is the sports deck with the exception of the 2 suites mentioned above.

Kathleen has it right, except that 1200 and 1201 do have larger balconies than those on the penthouse deck, just a little bit smaller than the others on deck 12.

I have seen some brochures that have small print under the sky suites saying that "some" balconies are 92 square feet. I'm not sure what the actual number is, but it's larger than the number for the non-suite balconies and smaller than the 172 or whatever that's listed.

BTW, this is also true on the Galaxy. There are some balconies on deck 12 there that have cutouts, but they are are still much larger than those on the penthouse deck.

I just got off of Century Saturday (4/17). My Sky Suite was 1207 on the Sport Deck. The veranda was a very good size. It had enough room for a good size table (we had breakfast on it most mornings), 2 chairs, and 2 loungers. Even with this, we had enough room also to stand with out being crowded by the furnature on the veranda. Although we did not live on our veranda, a few breakfasts, going out when we made stops to the room, and having coctails on it while my wife got ready for the evening was well worth it. The butler service was very nice. He was Johnny on the spot. Anything with in reason that I needed he got very quickly. When we ordered breakfast, we would give him a time, 3 minutes before that time, he would call the room and ask if it was O.K. for him to come up and serve us. He put out linen (Table cloth and napkins), silverware, etc. Just like being at the restaurant, except on our veranda. All in all great service. If you have any questions about the SS or the Butler, ask away.

We were in 1207 too (3/27-4/3). The only noise we heard was from kids who ran just above, which was not very often. It is a great location as it is midship and is 1 flight down to the pool and is also close to the elevators. It is a short walk across the pool area to the Spa, whaer I spent a lot of time in the T-pool....amazing! The cabin is big, beautiful, bright and airy with plenty of space. We put our suitcases under the bed cause we needed the room in the closet. The motion felt was normal ship motion, actually it was the best sleep I have had in years. We found the bed comfortable too. David, our butler was the best. Before delivering breakfast, he always called with his cheery "good morning! breakfast is ready!" We would come back from excursions or whatever and he always set up afternoon tea on our table. The room was kept immaculate and we just loved our cruise. I loved having the big balcony because there were never any chairs by the pool. Even if there were, we do not like being crammed in on the pool deck. The balcony has that advantage of privacy and to have a nice space to be quiet and just gaze our of your own personal space. We spend a decent amount of time there, having breakfast, and quiet time, and having a drink before and after dinner. When in our stateroom, we ordered champagne a few times and other times we drank what was in the mini-bar, Bailey's or cognac or whatever....we did drink a lot though OMG! A few martini's before dinner...a bottle of wine here and there..a few bottles of DP and cha ching!

We did buy soda cards and had a few spa treatments, but that's it.

Just got the AMEX bill $1850!!!!!

Not including what we dumped into the casino, which I don't even want to think abouticon_frown.gif

You guys are making me want to go right now! But I have to wait till January! icon_frown.gif Thanks for all the information. We're booked into 1209.

Since there are going to be three of us...(bringing my Mom along) do you think there will be a problem with space?

Thanks

It may be a little tight but do-able. The bed is on one side and across from it and next to the sliding glass door side is the convertible sofa. If you go to www.celebrity.com and to the century virtual tour you will see the sky suite interior and will see what I mean.

after a week of being in the cabin, you getmore "stuff" and you have to be organized or you will go nuts. There is only 1 vanity area - across from the bed and the bathroom is nice but tight. The bathroom door does not open all the way, the toilet is there, so it can get tight with getting stuff from the bathroom like lotions and stuff. Also the closet while big, is enough for 2, but maybe I over packed. I do recommend however stowing your lugage under the bed instead of putting it in the closeticon_smile.gif You will also have to ask for another outdoor chair and/or lounger, as there are only 2 of each.

If I may offer a suggestion, there are inside staterooms on the Sports Deck and they are reasonable. You will be across the hall from each other. Maybe your Mom would like to be in one of those and this way you will all have the best of both worlds. She will have her own living space and you can all get together for breakfast, drinks or whatever in your cabin and enjoy the balcony.

Kathleen

Thanks for your help. I realized that it might be a little tight. We have travelled quite a bit with Mom, even did a 5 day on the Sensation with the three of us in an oceanview. It was really not something we thought we would do again as DH had to sleep in the bunk (he is such a good sport icon_smile.gif )

This is why we went with the suite..the bigger cabin and the huge balcony. This will probably be her last cruise.

Thanks again! icon_smile.gif

Lem, no noise problems. Only open air on deck 14 above. Like Kathleen said only the occasional kid jumping or running, but as not much is going on up there (Some Loungers and the Golf Simulator) it is very peaceful. We had one night where we got rain. The rocking in our room was much less noticeable than the rocking in the theater (Deck 5 and 6) or the Crystal Room where we went dancing (deck 7). Even with a touch of wind and rain that night (the only inclimate weather we had) the rocking was not bad and actually was nice to sleep in. I do have problems sometimes with motion sickness (on roller coasters) but the size and stability of these ships keeps the rocking to a very tollerable level in my opinion.

Gardencat, I did not pour my own. I had David the butler bring me a martini at around 5:00 or you could order off of room service (same thing though as your butler will be the one serving you.

Kathleen, I loved when David would call every morning about 3 minutes before with "Good morning, your breakfast is ready. Also, every time I saw him in the hallway or down in the rondevouz lounge getting one of his guests a drink, even if he was all the way down the hall he would always give a big smile and say "Yes, Sirrrrrr!" Boy I am going to miss him.

David,

thanks for the info. Did you have a standing breakfast order and time? I like coffe when I wake up but who knows when that may be. Usually we're up early but what happens if we decide to "sleep in"? Also can pre-dinner cocktails be ordered on a daily basis? I hate to have the butler come up for just two drinks. It seems like a waste of his time and energy.thanks for the advice.

Lem, I filled out a card and gave it to David the night before. I specified the time. I am sure he can do it if you call in the morning, but breakfast is over at a certain time. Not sure when. As for not wanting him to come up for just two drinks, don't worry, he is happy to do so.

Not to worry.....on your vanity, you will find the breakfast form. Fill it out every night and put on your door. You can request any time. You can have coffee served first then breakfast at any time you wish. You can also have anything you want, not just what is on the menu...just write it in.

David, We thought David was the best, always a smile! He really made our wonderful vacation extra special. I just booked another Celebrity cruise to Alaska on the Summit - I was thinking of getting an FV room....then I remembered David and knew he spoiled us forever, I could never cruise without a butler. So we booked a suiteicon_smile.gif He went the extra mile without us ever asking..not only that, he is a wonderful person.

We're going to be soooo spoiled after this cruise! Is it hard to adjust to "normal" life when you got back?? My daughter just told us that we will never be able to cruise without a suite and butler after this!!!

  • 3 weeks later...

Hi, We just booked the Century on 10/23 in SS 1200. Is the balcony that much smaller than the others on the Sports Deck? I just feel fortunate that I was able to book one! In fact, only 1200 and 1201 were available at the time. also, we've never sailed a ship smaller than 90,000 tons. I'm kind of worried about feeling alot of motion, but I guess I'll just pop a motion tab. I read the Century is a beautiful ship and a great cruise!
