Renting a car?

Hi, I will be going on my first cruise in Jan 2011 and one port of call is St Thomas. Does anyone know anything about renting a car for the day? How much? Where? Etc.....thanks for the help.

there are several rental agencies to choose from. Figure about $50 for the day. Budget is at Havensite and there is a local company near Crown Bay.

I wouldn't rent anything less than a 4-wheel drive vehicle, and only if I were a skilled driver. (which eliminates me, personally :)). They drive on the LEFT side of the road, the roads are steep, narrow and curvy with no guardrails. But my husband is a skilled driver, and it was hairy even in STJ with little traffic and we only went to the beaches which were close to our hotel and right next to each other. If it rains and the roads get slippery, I couldn't imagine. Plus, you would not want to get lost and end up in an unfriendly neighborhood. Take a cab to your desired beach, and the shopping is right near the ship. Or, arrange for a private tour with a driver. jmo

signs remind you to drive on left. Most are US equipped cars so wheel is on left. I wouldn't rent anything that wasn't fully enclosed to protect my purchases in the trunk.
