retina60 Posted July 24, 2010 #1 Share Posted July 24, 2010 Does anyone know where cruise ships dock and where you can get Turkish lira and what tram to take to the old part of Istanbul? Thanks
maryann ns Posted July 24, 2010 #2 Share Posted July 24, 2010 This has been mentioned here many times, so along with what people say here you can do a search. Your ship will most likely dock near the Galata bridge on the Golden Horn. When you exit the port you will find yourself on a busy street with the tram tracks running down the middle. There are ATMs on both sides of the street. Once you have your cash you buy tokens for the tram from ticket booths in the centre platform. You want to take the trams going left as you exit the port. It was all very easy and the trams zoom by the cars and busses.
Rare cruisemom42 Posted July 24, 2010 #3 Share Posted July 24, 2010 Here is a good website with very detailed information on using the tram from where the ships dock: http://www.istanbultrails.com/2009/08/istanbul-cruise-ship-port-and-visa-essentials/ ATMs are plentiful. Again, it depends where your ship docks, but everyone who has looked has reported finding one nearby. Go up to the main street where the trams run and you'll likely see one or two within a block.
