Alaska Cruise

Recommended Posts

We've been thinking of taking a cruise to Alaska. Everyone we ask has loved it. We know the scenery is breathtaking, but are concerned that there will not be enough to do on the ship at night. We are taking the Oasis this Oct, so anything less will be disappointing. Are these cruises for scenery only?

No, the scenery is just a huge draw. There's still plenty to do in ports, and plenty on the ship. You'll still have nightly shows, daily activities, and plenty of stuff to do.

Not for scenery only, but that's the main thing in Alaska. A lot depends on what you want to do at night. There are bars, clubs, shows, pool tables (on the Radiance class ships), the casino, etc.

DH and I aren't big drinkers and can find better things to do with our money than feed a slot machine so we went to a couple of shows and that was about the extent of our nightlife. Plus we were usually tired after a day of excursions and exploring the ports so we tended to go to bed early and then get up early.

They do pretty much the same things. No ice ring or show on the Radiance. Still a lot of entertainment. MY DW and I do not like to gamble either, but with the fun at each port, the food and nightly shows, we had a lot going on.

The scenery is a big plus, with whale watching and the glacier stop. Have not heard from anyone that they did not enjoy the cruise. It tops all I have been on.

On our cruise, Matt Yee was performing nightly in the Schooner Bar so it was filled every evening. There were also the usual production shows and headliner shows that featured performers like Judy Kolba who we have seen on several other cruises. The night time entertainment and activity schedule was pretty much the same as we are used to on any other RCI cruise, so even if you aren't a casino afficienado you won't find that the ship has closed up shortly after late seating dinner. There is also a dedicated Cinema just forward of the Sports Bar and all Radiance class ships have the self-leveling pool tables that are a hallmark of those vessels.

I imagine that the nighttime experience on Rhapsody would be similar allowing for the fact that some of the features of Radiance ships are not available on Vision class vessels.

Plenty of onboard activity to complement your off ship experiences in Alaska.:D
