Thanks for your help, The Hotel Papadopoli Venezia (formerly Sofitel, and now a member of the MGallery collection) is located in the historic city center, close to the Grand Canal and Constitution Bridge, which leads to Piazzale Roma and the train station We stayed here in May before our cruise, very nice and less than 5 minutes walk to Piazzale Roma. http://www.accorhotels.com/gb/hotel-1313-papadopoli-venezia-former-sofitel/index.shtml
euro cruiser Posted August 2, 2010 #3 Share Posted August 2, 2010 If you do a search on this board for "Piazzale Roma hotel" you will find several recommendations. From the Santa Lucia train station, you need to get across the Grand Canal to Piazzale Roma. There is a pedestrian bridge (many steps) or you can take a vaporetto for one stop. From there to the cruise port is about a half mile.
grvdggr71 Posted August 2, 2010 #4 Share Posted August 2, 2010 Just to offer a few clarifications: The bridge from the train station to Piazzale Roma does have many steps, but they are very small steps to accommodate people with rolling luggage. Also, many cruise lines offer a shuttle bus service (usually for free) from Piazzale Roma to the cruise terminal (it's a short 7 minute ride). dileep Posted August 5, 2010 #5 Share Posted August 5, 2010 Hotel Carlton Grand Canal is right across from the train station. Just one bridge to cross! http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g187870-d228961-Reviews-Hotel_Carlton_on_the_Grand_Canal-Venice_Veneto.html
hkto Posted August 5, 2010 #6 Share Posted August 5, 2010 navigate to http://maps.google.com/ and paste "hotel loc: Piazzale Roma Venezia, Italy" in search box; you'll get lots of hotels displayed. the ones on the right of the train station are no more than 5 min walk
SK_CruiseCrazy Posted August 7, 2010 #7 Share Posted August 7, 2010 Hi, Here's a site that seems to have some easy to understand and practical information. I haven't read it extensively yet, but you might have fun exploring it for us!! http://europeforvisitors.com/venice/articles/venice-cruise-port-transportation.htm Here's a deeper link to hotels near the cruise terminal: http://europeforvisitors.com/venice/articles/venice-cruise-terminal-hotels.htm
Sandylee Posted August 9, 2010 #8 Share Posted August 9, 2010 Hotel Antiche Figure is right across the canal from the station and was nice. It is a few minutes' walk from there to Piazzale Roma and we didn't find it hard to do with our luggage.
