Effective 1st.October 2010

it will be illegal to smoke in public places, on the island. . :o

This news on local island TV tonight.

Definitions provided of such public places

seemed to speak mainly of enclosed spaces, in buildings and Malls but I'm sure there's others!

Welchman Hall Gully -nutmeg grove.

Further details re. locations such as Outdoors, on a catamaran, on the beach, tour-bus etc.

will come later I'm sure.

A quick read of the supporting article in today's island newspaper

says pretty much the same thing

with the stress being on enclosed places, buildings where smoke gets trapped.

NO mention of beaches, parks etc. (which are also "public places"..)

but someone's bound to bring that up.

Hoteliers are worried that they'll have customers who don't want to

understand that it's now the law of the land but isn't that just typical?:D

I'm not hearing anything about smoking on the beaches.

Given the wording in recent Press releases

the new regulations seems to be about protecting folks from side-stream smoke in enclosed areas

i.e. buildings with walls and a roof -- areas that are "substantially enclosed"..

It's sounding like they're worried about nightclubs, restaurants, etc.

One would imagine that as long as you're outdoors, things are cool

but don't quote me on that, coz I'm no lawyer and I haven't read the recent declaration/amendment...

I'm just saying that they're stressing indoor situations that are substantially-enclosed.

Hoping for further details clarifying the situation re. outdoors.
