Just off the Liberty today

I will post a review soon, but we had a great time. The weather was perfect except for a little afternoon shower in Jamaica. And speaking of Jamaica, after reading so many negative things about it on the board, I have to say it was one of our favorite places. The vendors weren't too agressive. They just pestered us a little for hair braiding and one old man introduced himself and tried to get us to go over to see his stuff after we did Dunn's River Falls, but nothing bad. The people there were very friendly to us.

The ship was beautiful. It was always clean and the stewards worked very hard. We weren't too crazy about Butch as CD. If I hear "Ya?" one more time, I think I'm going to scream! He's just too loud and too phoney in my opinion, and got annoying really quick. We rarely saw him around the ship other than at the nightly shows and the deck party. Maybe it was because it was his last week on Liberty, or maybe we just missed the activities he was at, I don't know. We did enjoy Joseph the Maitre 'D. My daughter laughed every time he said "it's sssssshowtime!". I heard people complaining about him, but he was entertaining. The food was great. My kids ate like little piggies. I have lots of food porn pictures to post when I can find my camera. We had a table for 4 in a booth, so I was able to take lots of pics without annoying anyone. Peter, our waiter from Jamica, was very nice.

They did the stupid color wars thing, which to me ruined the deck party. It was a mass of people screaming for their colors and it was too wild for me. Same goes for the Mardi Gras celebration. When Kyle was thowing beads, people were actually almost knocking people out of the way to jump and grab them. You would think they were throwing gold coins or something! My son and I were there but after we almost got knocked down, we left.

I have to apologize to my roll call group because we missed the meet and greet. If you saw a little girl crying and hitting us, that would be my daughter and she was extremely cranky at the time we were supposed to meet. I don't know if she was hungry or tired, but the only way I could get her to calm down was to take her in the pool. Sorry guys! :(

The kids didn't want to do the camps. My daughter went for one morning and cried every time we mentioned it again. My son went once but he's very quiet and said nobody talked to him. I told him maybe because you're not talking!

I'm off to bed soon because we just got home from a late flight, but if you any any questions about the Liberty, let me know and I'll try to answer them tomorrow. We bought a future cruise certificate, so time to start planning the next one!

Mary,

Sorry you missed the meet and greet. There were a couple of us that did meet up and it was nice to meet everyone that did come.

It was a great cruise, we also purchased the future cruise certificate as well. My kids were with us they were 19 and 21 and had a fabulous time, also looking forward to the next cruise. Maybe we will meet on a future cruise. I think it would be great to set up 2 meet and greet times just in case your not able to make the first that way you can meet everyone - unfortunately we missed a lot of people and didn't have room numbers or anything, we will plan better next time.

We booked all of the excursions on our own and everything worked out great and you are right we couldn't have had better weather.

I am in with Mary so if anyone has any questions, we can both help you out.

It is a beautiful ship.

Karen

PS - Sorry my vacation is over, my family is wondering what Padli will be bringing us for dinner tonight (guess we will be ordering take out, I am still on vaca).

We will be on the Liberty on August 21st. Was there a comedy club everyone seems to be talking about and if so how was it if you went? Also were the shows good? Look forward to your review. Can't wait to relax on the great ship.

We are cruising on the 21st also!! There is a roll call over on the roll call board. Seems to be alot of people from here going!!

Can't wait to hear more..:D

I read this board all the time and enjoy it every time. We have never been to a Meet and Greet on board. I try to follow the Roll Call Register..but then don't..and try to catch up two nights before the cruise. Impossible. They(rollcall folks) always seem to meet the night before sailing..and my DH and I drive in on the day of the sailing. ( He enjoys boarding late..no crowds) I wish the Roll Call Thread..since it is open to Members only anyway..on the Night before sailing..would post WHERE on board the ship the meet and greet is to be and what do you wear..beads? flower? scarf?

My mom and I were on this cruise as well- we had a great time! The food was fantastic and housekeeping was as wonderful and efficient as always. We loved the comedy club and went to all four 7:30 shows. I liked the comedy club schedule because it allowed you to see every comedian and still make your dinner time (late or early). I was disappointed in the quantity of shows in the main theater. Most nights there was only one 10:30 show and one night there was no show at all- just a lounge hop which didn't appeal to us at all. I personally didn't like the color wars- on my other cruises it has been much more casual if is was there at all. One other disappointment was that there were some neat shows, such as 60 seconds (copycat of A Minute to Win It gameshow) and Liar's club, but these were only offered once at 8:00 which conflicted with the late dining time. Overall, I loved the ship- it was clean, ran efficiently, and the staff was excellent! We even booked our next cruise while onboard (Alaska)- only 359 days to go!

We did our meet and greet on the ship the 1st day at 4:30 after sail away on the Lido Deck midship. I made a "Cruise Critic" sign that I sat on the table and the cruise critic people came to the table. I would recommend having a second meeting time and place just in case everyone doesn't make the 1st one.

Yeah, having a second time to meet would have been a good idea. :( Too bad we didn't think of it before the cruise.

Kim, we missed the Liar's Club and also wished they had it another time. We did see the 60 seconds one and it was ok. My husband loves things like the newleywed type games, but they only had it once and they said no kids, and the kids were with us, so we couldn't see it. I saw some of it on the TV and I don't know why they said no kids because the questions didn't seem so bad. I wish they had more shows like that throughout the day because I hate to say it, but during the afternoons we were a little bored on the sea days.

My husband didn't like the Around the World show because it was too much dancing for him and not enough singing. I liked it although the dancing did seem to go on too long for me too. I didn't really like the Village Idiots show. The juggling was good but they weren't funny. They did have a juggling workshop the next day and my son and I went, but we stunk at it! LOL Let it Rock was good, as was Legends on the last day.

Sun prarie, most of the comedians were good. I think the best was Darren Sanders, and there was another guy that was good, I forget his name. There is another post about it that has the names, I'm too tired to go look. LOL. Kim wasn't that funny, most of her show was a joke about boobs and it wasn't that funny after a while. I didn't see the other one.

Karen, Cute idea. How did you make the sign? Was it fancy, etc.?

Sorry about hijacking the thread.

Nidaco - I just used a blank greeting card that I use for sending out party invites and birthday cards, typed Cruise Critic on it and did a star border. I didn't save it or I would forward it to you.

The good comedians were Jim Brick and Darren Sanders. My husband, son and I didn't care for the two women, Carol and Kim.

I once had a link to a cruise critic door sign, or maybe it was name tag. Anyhow perhaps contacting cruise critic to get permission to use logo for a meet n' greet sign?? Found this as address

Looking forward to hearing more. This will be my first Carnival cruise, and first week long cruise too. We will be on the Feb 26, 2011, same as m1n1.

Oh cool! Did you sign up for the Roll Call?

Can't wait to read more and thank you for saying you liked Jamaica. I am thinking about booking my first Carnival cruise on the Freedom in 2011 and one of the stops is Jamaica. After reading so many bad remarks about Jamaica, I was going to go with another cruise. I liked the rest of the itinerary so I was undecided. I'm glad I read this.

I was on the same Liberty cruise and it was fantastic. I agree about Jamaica. I was on the balcony when we pulled into port and my jaw literally dropped. It was SO BEAUTIFUL. We walked to Margaritaville and back (just down the street) and it was not bad at all. I was extremely surprised. Everyone was nice, and with a quick no thank you to anyone who approached us (except for one persistant taxi driver) we were left alone.
