jeska00 Posted August 8, 2010 #1 Share Posted August 8, 2010 Hi all...the Tuscany and Wine Tasting excursions offered by our cruise ship are catching my eye for the Florence/Pisa port of call. Can any of you guys/gals offer personal experience and recommendations on the Tuscany type excursions? Thanks!
-Lew- Posted August 8, 2010 #2 Share Posted August 8, 2010 You don't mention your cruise line, so it's kinda' difficult to recommend a line specific excursion. On the Grand Princess last year we did the Tuscan Countryside, Villages & Farmhouse excursion and had a fantastic time. We have visited Firenze before and stayed in Tuscany for two weeks after our previous Med cruise, so this excursion fit the bill for us since it included lunch with a wine tasting and visits to two of our favorite villages: San Gimignano and Volterra. A light lunch was included along with about eight different wines to taste throughout the meal. The farm/winery owner gave an explanation of each wine as-well-as very funny instructional on how to taste wine. It was really a fun learning experience. If you're not on Princess, perhaps your cruise line will offer a comparable excursion. Enjoy your cruise... Lew

slidergirl Posted August 9, 2010 #5 Share Posted August 9, 2010 Tuscany is a bit different from the US (well, Napa and Somona) for wine tasting. Most places require advance reservations. This is one time where an excursion would be a plus over an attempt to do it yourself. If you can get one that goes to Montalcino, do it! Fantastic Brunellos!!!!! swifty Posted August 10, 2010 #6 Share Posted August 10, 2010 Anyone know what the cab fare to and from Lucca from the Livorno port is? Just checking, I believe the Princess excursion charge is around $59 per person round trip.
