Anyone use a beanbag for support on railing

Recommended Posts

I would not use precious packing space & weight for a bean bag. As several have already mentioned there are many other options. Usually I just place my hand between the lens and rail to absorb vibration. It's quick and easy. My hand is easy to pack and I have yet to loose or forget it somewhere. A pillow or rolled towel can also be used but be careful because they have a nasty habit of falling overboard and I'd hate to see a $285 charge to my shipboard account for a plain white towel.

You made me laugh! Sometimes though, my left does not listen to the right so I wonder, does that make it forgetful or forgotten?

Hey There,

I was thinking of purchasing a beanbag for support for my camera/lens when shooting aboard ship-Anyone use one? Good investment or should I skip it & just stick with my monopod?

You can get some that are refillable and fill it with sand from the beach when you get there, then empty it. They have the nut for attaching the camera. However resting the camera on the railing can cause some minor vibration on a long exposure. A pillow from the room or a rolled up tshirt would work in a pinch.
