puckster55pics Posted August 13, 2010 #1 Share Posted August 13, 2010 Hey There, I was thinking of purchasing a beanbag for support for my camera/lens when shooting aboard ship-Anyone use one? Good investment or should I skip it & just stick with my monopod?

framer Posted August 13, 2010 #3 Share Posted August 13, 2010 A pillow off the bed works in a pinch. Stick to the monopod. framer

Rare Keith1010 Posted August 13, 2010 #5 Share Posted August 13, 2010 I would stick to the room pillow. One less item to pack. Keith
pilotdane Posted August 13, 2010 #6 Share Posted August 13, 2010 I would not use precious packing space & weight for a bean bag. As several have already mentioned there are many other options. Usually I just place my hand between the lens and rail to absorb vibration. It's quick and easy. My hand is easy to pack and I have yet to loose or forget it somewhere. A pillow or rolled towel can also be used but be careful because they have a nasty habit of falling overboard and I'd hate to see a $285 charge to my shipboard account for a plain white towel. You made me laugh! Sometimes though, my left does not listen to the right so I wonder, does that make it forgetful or forgotten?

They have the nut for attaching the camera. However resting the camera on the railing can cause some minor vibration on a long exposure. A pillow from the room or a rolled up tshirt would work in a pinch.
