crusingici Posted August 16, 2010 #1 Share Posted August 16, 2010 3 females sharing a cabin -- is the only mirror in a balcony room the one above the sink in the main cabin? Also -- wondered if anyone knows for sure if the cabin doors are magnetic -- wanting to use magnets vs tape for notes, if possible. and..... are the showers in the spa available to be used by anyone should we need an extra one? we've done this once in a while on other cruises. Thanks for helping us out - hope to return the favor after our cruise! :)
sdmike Posted August 16, 2010 #2 Share Posted August 16, 2010 See below 3 females sharing a cabin -- is the only mirror in a balcony room the one above the sink in the main cabin? Nope. There is a full length mirror on the closet door as well, and a huge one on the wall next to the TV. Also -- wondered if anyone knows for sure if the cabin doors are magnetic -- wanting to use magnets vs tape for notes, if possible. The cabin doors are magnetic and..... are the showers in the spa available to be used by anyone should we need an extra one? we've done this once in a while on other cruises. You can use the spa showers if you are in a spa suite or have a spa pass. Otherwise they are not available to you. Thanks for helping us out - hope to return the favor after our cruise! :) You can see the full length mirror on the right in this picture. The reflection is the bed You can also see the one above the counter to the right of the TV in this picture

Ok -- you say your daughter did use the spa shower -- did she buy a pass or was it in conjuntion with a massage, etc? Or did she just go up and was able to use the shower???? YES! Thank goodness, since there are 3 of us we do have a deluxe balcony. Appears from the other replies that the door is magnetic -- but I'll take sticky notes, just in case.......we just thought having a large magnet and posting our shedules for our 'where abouts' and plans would be nice. Glad there are more mirrors - and thanks, sdmike for the photos!
owamo1 Posted August 19, 2010 #6 Share Posted August 19, 2010 I have no idea where to put this question, so I put it here, and am sorry if it is in the wrong place. I have a cabin with three related people and then one of their friends (17). When we board the ship, they use a credit card for the three of them, but how does the unrelated friend (17) do for paying for his excursions, soda card and arcade. Can he use his parents who are not coming if he has a permission slip, or does he give them a certain amount of cash to use as a cash customer? and how much would that be? Did not get answer when I called NCL, they weren't sure, could ask at the terminal, but I think I may need to do something before we come, so am turning to my cruise critic friends to help me understand this paying situation better, and I thank you in advance. travelingla Posted August 19, 2010 #7 Share Posted August 19, 2010 From past experience on other cruises (not been on EPIC yet) ...... it would be best if he does not have a credit card..... to have cash to give at registration before boarding. Each person in the cabin has a separate folio number which is on the room key which is the charge card for on board charges. You really would need NCL's firm policy on him being able to use his parents' cc. Did he fill out the online info - that is requested and then he has to have the same cc to present at check in - but not being in his name I have no idea -- maybe someone else knows for sure. That is why I suggest cash -- and whatever he does not spend will be refunded to him on the last day - usually by check from NCL. how much? Well - you might have to sit down to determine where he will be spending money on the ship..... bingo ? bowling? or other sports that have a fee? What about a soda card or buying soft drinks at meals? I don't know the drinking age policy (is it 21???) - so will he be buying alcohol? Is he a shopper? (kinda doubt it....) Do they allow 18 yrs olds to play in the casino? What about for fee entertainment and restaurants? Don't forget his charge for gratuities that are automatically added to his on board account. I hope this helps some to get the wheels rolling in thinking about what he will be expecting to spend - then add about $100 to be on the safe side. Anything off the ship will need to be cash only as well since he may not have a credit card for use. He can take traveler's checks and cash them on board at the front desk of the ship. He needs to be sure to check his bill at least every other day on board, if not daily, to keep up with his tab .....they won't allow him to over spend his cash allowance but it'd be a shame to be cut off on the third day due to 'lack of funds'

Seems the simplest thing to do...plus you earn credit card points on his charges.

Another issue here ... when you take a minor with you that doesn't belong to your family -- there's special paperwork that has to be filled out!!! I did this on my cruise to Alaska last summer. I took my daughter (15) and her friend (16). I had to have special papers to say she was allowed to be with me, in my care, etc. The forms are available on the NCL site. I had to get them notarized and everything. They should call to be sure before they go because they can deny them boarding if the paperwork isn't all there. . owamo1 Posted August 20, 2010 #10 Share Posted August 20, 2010 I asked about the 17 yo friend, and you guys covered more bases than I asked for. I now know to get a form from NCL site, notarized, so his parents can say it is ok for him to be in our care. And, I guess the simplest way like one of you pointed out was to pay his charges and get it from his parents when we return. And have him bring cash for excursions. I think that settles everything. Thanks so much. I only have to wait 8 more months.
