Flying, Fort Lauderdale; Sailing, Port Miami

Recommended Posts

A question or three for those cruisers that have flown in and out of Fort Lauderdale and then cruised out of Port Miami. It seems there are more flight options for FLL.

If you fly in the day before where did you stay?

How did you get from the airport/hotel to the pier and back?

How far is it from the airport to the pier?

No, I have not checked thru RCCL, yet.

Looking for options and opinions and advice.

Thanks

I am sailing out of Miami this coming Sunday. I am not flying in the day before so I cannot answer the hotel question. I am however fying to fort lauderdale. I booked my transportation through SAS transportation. They transport between fort lauderdale and miami. They also can pick you up at an area hotel in fortlauderdale if that is where you are staying and take you to Miami. It is only $15 per person from airport in FLL to Miami port. You should check out their site. Hope this helps

They also do return trips same price.

For our cruise on Aug. 18th we flew into Fort Lauderdale. Rented a car from Thrifty car rental. Drove to Miami and stayed at the La Quinta Inn Miami Airport East. On Le Jeune Rd. We used the hotels free Shuttle to return the rental car and go to the port of Miami. To return, same thing, rented a car at the port and returned it to the FLL airport

For those of you with extra time on your hands, and looking to save money, Tri-Rail costs $3.75 one way between MIA & FLL. More convienent for going between airports, but can be used in a pinch to get to downtown Miami. If you are just going from FLL to the Port of Miami, then the $15 deal sounds the best though.

We flew into FLL and stayed at La Quinta Ft. Lauderdale. They had an airport shuttle to pick us up. We used SAS to get to POM the next morning. They came right on time and we would definitely use them again.

It does seem that more people are doing the fly into FLL for a Miami cruise. Since you are arriving the day before your cruise you should have no problems. The SAS transportation looks to be a good value, just remember to plan your departure time to the port accordingly. The drive takes about 30-35 minutes between FLL and Miami in good traffic conditions. As far as hotels there are many choices from high end luxury to economical motels. Just pick you favorite chain and book it! Have a great cruise!

I cruised in April of this year and my travel agent took care of every thing. I flew in the day before and she set me up in the Marroitt a few blocks from the entrance to the port of Miami. Took a suttle form the airport to the hotel and in morning took a taxi to the ship, shuttle again after the cruise back to the airport.

We flew into FLL, took SAS to Marriott Biscayne Bay (Miami) and then back to FLL for sailing. We stayed in Miami a couple of days. SAS is very reliable. They were waiting outside the airport in FLL, called me as soon as we landed and then came on in as soon as we had retrieved out luggage.

It is generally a pretty easy comute from one to the other barring any unforseen accidents on Freeway.

Have fun.

We fly into Miami and sail a day later from FLL.

SAS won't pick up at the Miami Airport, it says on their web site. We have used them and they were great. But need an alternative this trip.;

How easy is the tri-Rail to get to from the Miami Airport?

Thanks!!:)

Not so easy ... Unfortunately, Tri-Rail does not go directly to either airport or port, so you would have to take a taxi or bus to connect to/from a tri-rail station. And who wants to schlep their luggage around with them? Not worth it.

Don't want to rent a car.

Thanks for the info, we will look at other options now........
