On Dream....changes

We are also on the Dream right now. We like to do our own things in ports and had already planned our days. I did not research western stuff! We have been to Cozumel several times and we have that covered, but what should we do in the other ports? Is Isla Roatan a private island? What do people do in Costa Maya and Belize? We like beaches and snorkeling and parasailing and stuff like that. Please give advice! Thanks.

Belize- take ship tour to Bannister Caye. It's great. Whatever you do, be SURE to take a ship excursion because of how LONG it takes to tender (and by doing it with the ship you head straight to your destination from the ship, versus making a stop in Belize City and backtracking). Costa Maya, hop a cab to Majahual for relaxing beach day. Roatan- hop ship's excursion to Tabayana Beach...our fave part of the whole cruise.

Mahogany Bay is Carnival's private port on Isla Roatan. There's a great beach there along with many shops and such.

Check with the Excursions desk for a list of what is available...

:)

Have a great cruise!

In Belize, I would recommend the Cave tubing. We had a lot of fun doing that. We used cave-tubing. com and they were half the price of the ship. It's a great adventure!

I say go with cave-rubing.com as well. In fact two years ago on the Liberty, our itinerary changed from eastern to western as well and we didn't find out until the morning we were boarding so I called my daughter who contacted the cave-tubing.com people and they were expecting us at the dock. The two of us were the only ones from our ship and got a private escort as well Eventually we caught up with passengers from another Carnival ship and rode back to the ship with them. It was a blast. The service was excellent.

I bet there's some mad people on there, especially ones who have saved for a long time for this cruise and those who have already been to those Western Caribbean ports and wanted to see the ones they booked the cruise for.

Eastern usually costs more than western too. I wouldnt be too thrilled changing to Western. Eastern is still my preference, but I have to fly to Florida to get a true Eastern.... if I paid to fly to Florida .. only to be rerouted to Western ...Im sure there will be some not happy.

Did you know before you boarded or once you were on? I don't cruise until next week on the Pride but the Atlantic sure is busy. Fairly new to cruising and just wondering how they handle things like this.

There was someone on the roll call who was supposed to get married in St Thomas. How very sad for her and her family. Such a risky plan during hurricane season. I sure hope she still has a nice cruise. I'd probably be crying all week if that happened to me.

Victor Bodden is highly recommended in Isa Roatan. We will be doing his tour in October.

Sorry for the switch but make the best of it. You are cruising!

Very true.. if you email him he will try his hardest to accommendate you all. Good prices too.. enjoy your cruise... better to be safe than sorry. We go in 21 more Saturdays---Western too.

Belize - cave tubing with Yhoni. (cave-tubing.com) You don't have to make a reservation...just walk through Terminal One and look for a man with a HUGE White Board with names on it. He accepts last minute bookings. I would get there as close to 9:15am as possible.

It is $45 for transportation and floating TWO caves....

Since I have been following him in 2005, his tours have never missed the ship.

ROATAN: I would make that a beach day.

Sadly people do not fly to an island to get married when cruising is so much cheaper per person AND you get all the other cruise days thrown in.....

but that's the chance you take......

Roatan has a beautiful beach...and I am sure it could make a great wedding site....

(at least no one will be shooting at them)

Have a great trip. You always have the chance of the destinations changing this time of year.

We are on the DREAM next week. While I am looking forward to the excurisions we have already planned, I will be flexible.... Just let me be on the ship with a FooFoo drink in my hand,:)

The opposite happened to us during the Swine Flu episode 2 years back. We booked the Western and went Eastern. We did not find out until a few days prior. It was even fun for us waiting to find out where the heck we were going to be routed to.

We are so laid back and thankful to have the opportunity to cruise, we didn't care if the ship went up and down the Mississippi as long as we were on it:D:D.

Cheers and enjoy whatever adventures life throws your way!!

Carnival's (as with any cruise line) first priority is to keep people safe.

They will go around any severe weather....usually ports being changed is the main concession.

Yep...we were suppose to go back to our beloved Costa Maya for the first time since Hurricane Dean (we were there one week before Hurricane Dean destroyed it) and the Swine Flu changed our Western to Eastern....

we still had a blast.....

Hmm... should be a no-brainer.... let's see... Go Eastern, go head long into a hurricane and have rain/high waves/storms/seasickness and put everyone at danger all week OR go Western and have sun, smoother sailing and nice beaches....

If people get mad, guess they'll have to be mad. I'd much rather be safe. They probably wouldn't see the ports anyway if they're in a hurricane.
