DIY Taxis

Does DIY mean "do it yourself", or is that a company?

IF it means taking your own taxi well then it is certainly something easy to do.

There's a meter for charges and there is a certain amount extra for bags and for pick up at airport or port but it is all added up and quick and easy.

DIY is a taxi company that charges the same as a regular taxi but meets you at the airport or the cruise port with a sign with your name on it, no need to wait in line.

If you are going to pre-book with any taxi company, be aware of their policy in the event that your flight is delayed. Our flight from Toronto to BCN was delayed by hours ... not a problem with transportation on arrival as we were taking the airport bus. Someone else I know had their TA prebook (and prepay) a transfer for them upon arrival at BCN and when they were late, the driver wasn't there. They had the expense of another taxi, and the original company said 'no refund' as they hadn't received notice from the client of the delay.

Not sure why this taxi issue keeps coming up in the forum. There are always plenty of taxis at the Barcelona Airport (and in town) and you will never be in line at the taxi queue more then a few minutes (if that). The problems we have had with taxis in this town is that a few of the drivers seem to think its OK to try and cheat passengers by setting their meter to the night setting (I think its code 2) when its not night...thus getting a higher rate on the meter. But most of the drivers are pretty honest.
