JanetAlice Posted August 30, 2010 #1 Share Posted August 30, 2010 You always are sad when you hear about these things, especially when you visited only a month before. http://www.cnn.com/2010/CRIME/08/30/alaska.police.shot/?hpt=Sbin
edhopper Posted August 30, 2010 #2 Share Posted August 30, 2010 We'll be there next week. I know these things happen everywhere. But it ,akes me feel a little unsafe to just wander around. I know that's a gut reaction, but still.
outatuune Posted August 30, 2010 #3 Share Posted August 30, 2010 According to the icystraitpoint.com website, Radiance was due there today. I bet they cancelled the port call, but I wonder what they will do instead?

Santa2ya Posted August 30, 2010 #5 Share Posted August 30, 2010 I read about this on a local news channel website. Officer Tony Wallace grew up a few miles away in Franklin, Ohio. Such a tragic event. :( http://www.fox19.com/global/story.asp?s=13064995 My prayers go out to the families involved.
AkSusan Posted August 31, 2010 #6 Share Posted August 31, 2010 We'll be there next week. I know these things happen everywhere. But it ,akes me feel a little unsafe to just wander around.I know that's a gut reaction, but still. Unfortunately, things happen. No matter where someone lives and you just can't stop enjoying life, because of one occurrence. When this occurred, the State Troopers SWAT team moved in, the Park Service, the Coast Guard brought over the police from the Juneau and also medivaced the one officer out. All was done to keep the rest of the town safe and end the episode peacefully. With Hoonah now having only remaining police officer (the chief) the Sitka and Juneau police departments will be pitching in to help Hoonah. The grief teams were due in today. According to the icystraitpoint.com website, Radiance was due there today. I bet they cancelled the port call, but I wonder what they will do instead? They did their day at Skagway instead. State Ferry couldn't dock on time either since the Coast Guard had closed down the dock, but all was reopened midafternoon yesterday and the ferry was going to do its Hoonah stop.
