Definitely glad to hear an arrest was made, but definitely makes me think that Carnival is helping to police their own, which to me is a good thing.

 

How else would they have known of the photos on his laptop unless someone on board reported it?

This is the third cruise line crew member since last October that has been caught with child porn by Canadian Border Security. One from a Costa ship, the other on an NCL ship. Our border agents are very adept at catching these guys, even caught a local bishop returning from Thailand last year.

Yes, sadly this hideous crime exists in all walks of life! Im glad that this one individual has been identified and charged. Whether you are in a hotel, or on a cruise ship, or on your own street/neighborhood, you never really know who is next door!:(

I think so. And we're definately amid the minority. But whatever. I'm fine with not being the "cool parent" to others, but the funny thing is that my kids know how I am and know the rules and know I won't bend, so they're fine with it.

Not to support the guy but out of 187 countries, 93 countries have no laws that specifically outlaws having such material. It may have been legal in his country.

 

Obviously, cruise ships have their rules and I'm guessing that is also a no-no.

While I understand and agree about the kids going around on their own. just as an FYI, there are numerous teachers who are also arrested every day on these kinds of charges. Let's also not forget clergy! More important to inform and educate your children!

There is much less of an opportunity and place for a teacher or clergy to get their hands on a child these days, versus a ship with thousands of nooks and crannies someone can easily shove a child into. Plus the fact that there's access to slip something into the child's food or drink as well.

 

Education is important, but so is eliminating the opportunity.

Sadly, you never know who you're dealing with. You can't tell by just looking at somebody if they're into kiddie porn. I know, cuz I used to go out on smoke breaks with a fella from the maintenance dept. at a hospital I worked at. I was a secretary at the time, and I befriended this guy since he was often on our floor changing light bulbs or some other thing. He was married so I figured he was okay for a smoke buddy, never made a pass, talked about his wife, etc.

 

One day he didn't show up for work and another guy from his dept. told me he was arrested for kiddie porn. I read some of details a few days later in our local paper. I never suspected him. Not even when he mentioned you could find "anything you want on the internet." I thought he was talking adult porn and just said I wasn't interested in anything like that and he never mentioned it again.

 

By the way, turns out he wasn't just viewing, he was the photographer! If I had kids, I wouldn't trust anybody!

So scary. Something similar happened at a place I used to work at. Big time executive, married, kids, deacon in his church, volunteer for all sorts of civic organizations, etc. FBI and swat team showed up one day with warrants to seize anything they wanted in his office and took him away on charges of having sex with a 13 year old. He even admitted it. :mad: You just never know.

Very true. One of my aunt's favorite sayings is "There are a lot of devils in church". She is very religious, and has been a member of her Baptist church for almost 40 years. But, in that time there have been numerous scandals involving various members of her church including some of the deacons and the organist. I myself went to Catholic school and in the last 20 years (since I graduated high school) I have learned that 1 Monsignor (from grade school) and 2 Fathers (priests) from my high school have been defrocked. It's not just the clergy, these people are everywhere.

Yep.........they seek out jobs that involve children, teachers, daycare, coaches, camps etc........
