Glory crewman arrested with kiddie porn

all parents should remember this thread the next time they want to book a cruise...and ask...

1. Is it OK for my kid to roam the ship with out me

2. My DH/DW and I want a balcony for ourselves...is it OK for our 2 kids, ages 7 & 9 to be across the hall in an inside cabin

I am just praying that whoever had the porn in their possession was not also the photographer. Does anyone realize how easy it would be to hide a "nannycam" in a cabin?????!!!!!!!:eek: Gives me chills at the thought of it!

I think so. And we're definately amid the minority. But whatever. I'm fine with not being the "cool parent" to others, but the funny thing is that my kids know how I am and know the rules and know I won't bend, so they're fine with it.

And they will be much safer because of it!! I never cared if I was the cool parent either!

While I understand and agree about the kids going around on their own. just as an FYI, there are numerous teachers who are also arrested every day on these kinds of charges. Let's also not forget clergy! More important to inform and educate your children!

This is very true! It scares the crap out of me. No busses for our kids, or grandkids, the classes at their elementary school were open class rooms, meaning No real walls or doors, so that was good, and at church, there was always more than one adult in the room.

Hmm ... you don't see what I do every day! What actually gets reported is amazing compared to what actually happens every day!

What is it that you do all day? You make me think you could be one of the perverts with your remark. And if you aren't, and know of things happening, why aren't you reporting it?

Many years ago I went out a couple times with a local cop. He was a bit too agressive for my tastes so we went our separate ways. In the ensuing years he married and had a family, was commendated on a couple occasions and worked with youth at risk. A couple years ago I read in the paper he was caught with kiddie porn on his computer. Trust no one!

I would never use the in-room baby sitting on the ship, either. You do not know these people that you are leaving your child with.

Yeah. It baffles me how many people complain about Carnival not having that, yet even if it were offered I'd much rather have the group setting that's currently used.

Not to support the guy but out of 187 countries, 93 countries have no laws that specifically outlaws having such material. It may have been legal in his country.

Obviously, cruise ships have their rules and I'm guessing that is also a no-no.

actually back home, in indonesia, if you have money, you can make anything legal

and im being serious

Apparently it was an assistant steward.

I'm kind of guessing that hiding a webcam would be rather difficult in that setting, not to mention if it were a wireless camera i think the computer would have to be pretty close?

There is much less of an opportunity and place for a teacher or clergy to get their hands on a child these days, versus a ship with thousands of nooks and crannies someone can easily shove a child into. Plus the fact that there's access to slip something into the child's food or drink as well.

Education is important, but so is eliminating the opportunity.

I think this guy is a dirt bag and deserves what he gets,

But this thread is getting off track,

He had child porn, it does not say he is a predator, or a pedophile,

He is still a jerk, but lets keep it together.

Make him walk the plank,

as close as in the supply closet across the hall? Doesn't really matter anyway...it was an assistant steward....you know the one that also says hello to your kids...helps them with the door key if they have trouble when going back to the cabin alone...and brings towels and supplies into your cabin...and cleans up...sometimes with your kids close by..etc.

what i am really saying is that the perp is someone that sees your kids...everyday...and let's not kid ourselves...they are not our friends and have a certain degree of jealousy toward us

Me too.

Just found this thread. Along with,

Newly fired spa guy on Splendor...and

Thread on should we do more screening recently in our main Cruise Critc News thread......

Like the elevator door...things happen in a flash with plenty precaution..but their surely is a lot of precaution one can take..and we can and must do better as a society on this entire issue...cradle to grave..ok off my soap box..again glad CC has the hutzdspaw (sp) to let these facts get out...there is propably a 10 to 1 good to bad character on a ship I'd hope..but never be so lulled into complete R&R safety..as much as one would desire...sjn.

Very true. One of my aunt's favorite sayings is "There are a lot of devils in church". She is very religious, and has been a member of her Baptist church for almost 40 years. But, in that time there have been numerous scandals involving various members of her church including some of the deacons and the organist. I myself went to Catholic school and in the last 20 years (since I graduated high school) I have learned that 1 Monsignor (from grade school) and 2 Fathers (priests) from my high school have been defrocked. It's not just the clergy, these people are everywhere.

Yep.........they seek out jobs that involve children, teachers, daycare, coaches, camps etc........

Yes..and extremely hard behavior to heal or change..i.e.the perps..not impossible but success rate so small helping professions now basically say in house or constantly supervised..strict half way house after incarceration...care for life...sjn911.

On the prosecution side here! Boy scout leaders also, and people send their kids on over-night trips with them!

100%!!! I think you and I were on a different thread discussing why kids shouldn't be left to roam without an adult present. And we were getting the standard answer of "my kids are fine roaming around the ship alone".

OK then, let them. It's no skin off my nose. But here is more proof that they shouldn't be alone.

I really think the problem is escilating so much that with compassion and within reason of course..we can all learn little unobtrusive good samaritan ways to make a difference..especially those of us who "get it".

And I so agree with everything you've said..this is just an add on thought not a lecture or gotta do it..etc. It is YOUR VACATION.

A few years ago I drove from my suburb pdx town to the local theater and I noticed a local known weirdo..prob not dangerous but who knows follow me to the theater..and make a few loops by ticket area to see if I was meeting anyone..just a gammer..known from my coffee shop. So I pretend not to notice..change up my plans of exit and movie times and it just so happens that there is this cute 14 year old roaming the multiplex with a tear in her eye..well pushing it back. I have purchased a later than planned showing..twice while getting tickets noticed some toughees give her a time. So I amble up..casually give an auntie type joke and say I have a bit to wait for my movie..wanta get a paper cup and take a little of this diet coke off of my hands so I won't have to go to bathroom 10 times...now please say no honey...(she did plus one) and just wanted water...straight from the counter we went...

Then proceeded to tell me her folks were in that scarey apocolypse Christ movie that she had told them..as a Christian she didn't feel she had to go to be a good girl and..they were not in agreement..she said she just got too upset and they might be mad but she left as she had previously told them..she just couldn't take the violence...so I got a chance to have a wonderful conversation with a brilliant young sensitve child and then just talk her up to the max to her folks "sigh" as I said I would wait with her until movie got out and do what I could to smooth over the situation as best as I could..yeah I got marginally involved..went on with my own movie and planned a little Security walk and check to my car..I think her parents maybe got how special she was to recognize and seperate the violence from her faith and fundamental faith..she didn't have to see to beleive...maybe this was a good thing..etc. Well anyway the night was interesting..maybe ordained by the better angels out there..who knows...sjn,

I most certainly have compassion and history to undertand and beleive me want this stance...as a crime survivor.

I finally came to a hard earned and not easily stuck with stance against this option and it's not easy....

kind of a daily struggled with stance that has something to do with in order for all of us to be part of a solution...we all have to know and understand what we are dealing with from it's inception at it's source.

The one gift the Bundy's of the world give us is a picture of evil for lack of a better word and it's formation and how and what was done..yes with al the games and continued manipulation in the book..but info on the who, how, why's, what's, and when's was lost with him.

For me personally it is about forgiveness and daily work at eliminating internal rage....which is not forgetting or ever forgiving the behavior but another life long process..quite self-centered frankly..for allowing good and trust back in my life. Happy cruising and so sad these subjects have to be a part of our cruse awareness and considerations.

Most sincerely understand your opinion,

I have a very strong feeling about this topic, because it has happened in my extended family. I take the side of the victim in this topic. This is something that doesn't just hurt once. This type of abuse continues for many many years because once a photograph of a child is released on the internet it usually stays for many year. It is very hard to get them off. Another thing is that these people have their own little cliche of people and the trade and talk about these things. If we can get on person off the streets that is great, because it is one less creep that can hurt our children.

The person that hurt this child in my family was able to escape the country, and get lost in the mess off people out there. We wish that he will be found and that he can pay for what he has done.

It is sometime hard to find these people. But sometimes they make mistakes and we find them. They are then able to pay the price for what they have done. The problem with foreigners is that they rarely spend time behind bars. They usually get deported back to their country and they are free to hurt children again.

I thought we deported them AFTER they finished their sentence. Maybe we don't want our taxpayers to pay for confining some other country's criminals, that's the only case I can think of for deportation in lieu of prosecution. It's a weak argument.

Wow, we were on that cruise. Didn't notice any commotion when we got into Halifax. Glad they nabbed the guy.

When we got back to NYC, debarking was delayed about 30 minutes and I did notice a woman being led away in handcuffs. Different story of course but I wonder what that was about.

They run a criminal check on all the passengers while the ship is at sea and if someone comes up with warrants, the feds arrest them at the end of the cruise. There could be other explanations but that's a likely one.

There are a lot of people on this thread with unrealistic attitudes, IMO. For example, "Trust no one." What a terrible lesson to be teaching one's children, rather than concentrating on teaching them how not to be victimized, while still being able to develop trustful relationships.

I am so fortunate to have a wife of 42 years who has always completely trusted me, the Tiger Woods of the world notwithstanding. I do know that we would not have the sort of loving relationship we share if either of us had the "trust no one" attitude.
