My son and fiancee are considering a cruise wedding. Could anyone here with any experience in a shipboard wedding share some input as to their experience?

Thanks in advance.

Rachel

I went to one(my friend was the brides mom).......I will ask my friend to post her experience on here..

I got married to my wife onboard Liberty of the Seas in 2008 in Miami, FL in the onboard chapel. It was wonderful, the staff took care of everything for us. You'll book the wedding through Royal Romance (see www.rccl.com for more information) and they will complete everything for you. The best thing of all was we were instantly on our honeymoon right afterwards. We had a group of 8 join us. It was a great time!

I'm the friend Kathy was talking about whose daughter got married on the Sovereign. I totally agree with what has already been said. From the time we arrived at the terminal our wedding consultant handled everything. She kept us informed as things progressed towards the ceremony and helped everyone relax (if that's possible!)

Working with Royal Romance, we were able to order flowers, the cake, pictures, DJ, and food for the reception, as well as have an open bar. Everything was taken care of well in advance, so there was no last minute drama with the actual ceremony and reception. Wish I could say that about the favors, but that's another story!

Only variable is where the ceremony will be taking place. If it's one of the ships with a wedding chapel, that's where it will be. If not, they will have the ceremony in an area that will hold all the attendees.

I hope this info helps. If you need more information, just ask. One of my neighbor's sons is looking into a cruise ship wedding, so I'm in the process of getting them started on the planning.

Good luck with your plans for your special day.

Please do not put too much faith in Royal Romance, without our own carefull attention that uncovered their various mistakes, our wedding on board the ship would not have happened. They were working on the wrong licences for us. Just by luck we arranged a meeting at their offices ahead of our cruise when this major error was uncovered, the local people in Jamaica were great but the Miami office set-up was far from perfect.

.................... They booked with Royal Romance. :)

We got married out of San Juan... The cruise line took care of everything. Including taking us to get our License. We had a choice of justice of peace or a Pastor. It was a great experience. All of our guest had a great time. We were all able to board first. After the wedding we had 25 people remain on the ship to cruise with us. It was just an awesome time.

Most important. It was not expensive as I thought it would be.

We had a Video person, Photographer, DJ, Unlimited drinks, Food was great, an Awesome wedding cake. AND NO STRESS

My husband and I were married onboard Mariner in October 2008. Would do it again in a heartbeat and are looking forward to renewing vows with RCCL.

We wanted a small no fuss wedding. Wonderful. Royal Romance took care of everything. License, flowers, JP.

The consultant was waiting for us at the front door to the port area when we arrived. She took us every step of the way. She escorted everyone to the chapel for the ceremony, then came back to get me.

We too enjoyed the fact that after the ceremony, it was honeymoon time.

At the time I thought it a bit pricey, but given the cost of a traditional ceremony these days, it was a great value.

Side note: Unless you are very, very, very sure of the weather on the day you choose to marry, I would never take a cruise to have a ceremony at a destination. One couple onboard with us was to be married in St. Thomas. Due to a hurricane, the ship had to change directions. Very disappointing for the couple. While RCCL did perform a "ceremony" for them on the ship, they had to wait until they returned home to "offically" tie the know.

Thank you all so much for sharing your experiences with us. I don't know that my daughter-in-law-to-be will choose a cruise wedding, but I know its what I am hoping for :)

If I think of any specific questions, I'll be back....

Thanks again,

Rachel

I'm currently in the planning stages of my Oct. 28th wedding on The Grandeur of the Seas out of Fort Lauderdale.

I am working with Royal Romance and so far my experience has been sub-par. The co-ordinator they assigned me stoped working for them but I was never notified. I had been sending her e-mails and leaving her voicemail messages and was not getting a reply after an unusually long amount of time. I was used to having to wait 2-3 days before I ever heard back from her but it was a week before I finally gave up and called and asked to speak to someone else. At that point I was told that she was no longer with the company. I'm thinking it was maybe an issue with that particular coordinator, at least I hope so.

We have to make final payment by next Monday. (45 days prior to sailing).

What I do like is that they are handling everything; flowers, cake, officiant, decorations, photographer, dj, reception package w/ open bar ect. but I really couldnt tell you very much until after the wedding and I'm hoping that they dont mess stuff up. We are in charge of getting our own marriage license but thats only because we are both Florida residents and the wedding is in FL.

We are having our wedding on embarkation day in Port Everglades which is where we live so all of our guests are going to be non-sailing. I love that we get to get married on a cruise ship and then sail off on our honeymoon!

There is a very helpful board here on C.C. under wedding/honeymoon cruises. http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=31

We are getting married(fiance and I) on NCL(sorry not RCL) Sept 19 and we are using the wedding experience for our wedding and while they aren't always calling and emailing they have accepted all our requests for the ceremony and other extras including reception and open bar for our non sailing guests. We are getting married on embarkation day

Good luck with your wedding plans
