Wow! The rumors and the advertising is true.

All of the guys on an Atlantis cruise are muscular, buff and great looking!

Now I'm intimidated!

Thanks for the pictures. Really great pictures and it looked like all of you were having a lot of fun!

Great pics! Now I have to ask.... were they really people of all shapes and sizes on the ship? I can imagine the photographers may take pics of all the very good looking, younger built guys.... but any guys on the the ship that are not buff, ripped and 'pretty'? :) :)

Not that it is a bad thing... but can be intimidating.

Yes, my partner and I are definately in that crowd of not buff, not ripped and not tanned. I pretty much kept my shirt on the whole time because I was afraid that the glare from my pasty white skin might cause the captain to steer the ship into some deserted island. Seriously though folks, even though I took pictures of mostly hot men (gee, imagine that), there really were a total mix of guys of all ages and body types. Neither I nor anyone should have felt intimidated. There was a really overweight guy that had a T Shirt that read "I beat anorexia". Good for him! Yes, the advertising from Atlantis shows only hot guys, but as the company president, Rich Campbell, said himself, "sex sells", and he is running a business for profit.

WOW!!

I have to say that those pics were great but very intimidating.

Can you estimate the average age of the passengers.

Thanks in advance. Off to find some slimfast hehe

I would say that the average age was somewhere between 35-40. Some people have said that this specific cruise has more younger people because it leaves from Miami, and therefore is more affordable because of airfare. I would assume that the Alaska and European cruises are a somewhat more affluent, and perhaps older crowd

Having never been on an all gay cruise, I really enjoyed seeing the pics of the Atlantis trip.

Everyone seems to be having a blast (I can't imagine how much luggage people must bring to carry all those costumes and stuff; my partner & I always travel with only a carry-on size wheelie and a backpack each for a weeks cruise)

As a 40-something Asian-American NY'er, I can now see that an all gay cruise is not something my partner & I have any desire to do.

How many on deck parties were there? The ship seems packed to the gills with guys. Was the ship as crowded as the pics made it seem?

The atmosphere seems to be as if one is immersed in a gay bar and danceclub 24/7 ....

I think we would enjoy the idea of a Pied Piper gay group cruise better. We have no need to be segregated into an all gay vacation.

But I would definetely recommend Atlantis to my single friends, based on your pictures! Thanks for posting them!

Anthony, I would have to disagree with your assesment of the cruise. Obviously my pictures give a slanted view. The truth is that more than half the passengers were coupled, that the average age was 35-40 (so you would not feel out of place) with amny upo in their 60's and older. there were 3 nightime deck parties that started at 11PM, the rest were dances that ran from 4-6PM, so a vast majority of the time it was not a party, it was not a gay bar/dancebar 24/7, and other than the dance parties when it was great to be packed together, the rest of the time the ship seemed amazingly empty, you would hardly believe that there were over 3,000 passengeres on board with you, never a wait at dinner, getting off and on the ship, at the shows etc.. ANd even during the dance parties, they guys could have easily spread out if they wanted to, half the pool deck was empty. We go on all gay cruises not to party all night (which we definately never do), but because we want to enjoy eachothers company, and the company of our friends, with open displays of affection, when and where we choose, and not have to worry about the glances, opinions, etc from others. And the tailoring of the dining options, entertainment, movies, pool games etc.. that would interest the average gay man. The plethora of hot bodies ani't so bad either, LOL

Thanks, Dave, for you quick response! I would like to make a couple of points.

First of all, I hope you didn't take my comments as criticism of either you or Atlantis cruises. It was not meant to judge; I guess I'm more 'thinking out loud', so to speak. I also don't want to seem like a prude or fuddy-duddy either. I enjoy my share of gay oriented interests; Margaret Cho; Bravo Channels Manhunt Show; Pride Day Parades; the occasional porno tape ( oh, I guess now they're on DVD...)

I guess what I'm trying to say is that (FOR ME) alot of what I see as Gay Male oriented 'culture', for lack of a better word, is something I enjoy in small, contained doses. That's why I compared the Atlantis Cruise experience

to being in a Gay bar 24/7.

For me, I enjoy a more integrated, assimilated life thats not gay-oriented 24/7.

I purposely choose not to live in a 'gay ghetto' and my partner and I now spend the majority of our non-working time with our families and less time with our gay friends and aquantances.

I cannot deny that I love looking at hot, hunky men with no shirts on and in skimpy (NOT boarding shorts) swimwear; at the same time, I feel the gay male community puts too much emphasis on physical appearance. And as a person of color, the Gay community in general does not embrace diversity.

So I'm left wondering why does a cruise for gay men have to boil down to Leather, tribal tattoos, Martinis, pecs & abs, Deborah Cox, and square cut swimming trunks?

Hey Anthony, I definately did not take your comments as criticism, and I agree with many of your points. I don't live in a gay ghetto either, just a small (but thankfully liberal) city in Michigan. I consider this cruise as small, contained doses of gay male culture. 90% of gay people don't live their lives anything close to what this cruise is like. Most of us live in assimilated worlds. so this is our one chance to let loose, and have the type of fun that most of us only read about.

I do also agree with you about the gay community not reaching across racial/cultural lines, and I don't have an answer for that, but perhaps only to say that it probably follows the lines of division that we see in the straight world.

Your comments thankfully just prove, that like society as a whole, the gay community is made up of many very different smaller communities, and that can only be a good thing in the long run.

Really, it doesn't. My partner and I, in our 60s, had a great time. We didn't do anything leather, except our shoes and belts. We have no tatoos. Our pecs and abs haven't been seen for years. Didn't like Deborah Cox, but was impressed by her piano man. And we never wore our swimning trunks. But the cruise was wonderful. We met many interesting people. We celebrated our 34th anniversary with new friends, who were celebrating 5 years on the same day. Ordinary cruises are fun. All Gay cruises are much better.

Oh I don’t know about that…I thought you guys looked pretty handsome yourselves. I do understand your issue with skin color – I’m right there with you…

It doesn't. The cruise is totally what YOU make of it. Atlantis had an itinerary chock-full of so many diverse things to do that you could probably have avoided all the parties full of bare-chested men and still had a great time.

Honestly, I'm 31, in good shape, and single, but staying up all night every night at these parties was just not my thing, although I could have easily done that. I love club music and looking at hot guys, but you can only take so much of that. So I chose to take time out and do other things I enjoy, like playing slots in the casino, laughing at comedienne Shann Carr's show, playing mini-golf, getting a massage at the spa, playing bingo, enjoying my time at the ports of call, etc. Sure I made it out to some of the parties too, but that was certainly not my focus, and the ship provided an ample number of diversions to keep me more than satisfied.

Davela2 (Dave?),

Since your pictures are so good, it might be nice if you could tell us about your equipment (that is, camera, etc).

Ivan

I just used my old Pentax fully automatic 35mm camera. One of these days I'll go digital, but this camera has served me well

These are the best (by far!!!) I have seen from the Navigator cruise. Congratulations! Do you know Robb & Bruce from Hawaii? You should post your photos on Bruce's website (Kauaibruce).

We are going on the Brilliance cruise from Barcelona on 31 August. I know it will be loads of fun.

Amused by some of the comments on this thread. I just love all these gorgeous men and am certainly not intimidated by them, despite being MUCH older! (but then - I am a Brit!!!). LOL.

'Scuse me for butting in on the guys' thread! I'm just curious - I assume there are still female crew members on board even on all gay cruises. How do they seem to feel about the clientele they are serving? I can imagine the combined energy of a shipful of gay men would be intense...is anyone nervous, or are they used to it?

All are welcome, etiole. I would think that the crew was not used to this high energy crowd, but I spoke to a lot of them and they all said it they were looking forward to this gang of gays, and that it was one of the best cruises for them ever: no kids, great tippers, only a handful of complainers, the cruise crews perfect combo

I’ve heard the same things…and I’ve seen many pictures of female off-duty crew members right in all of the fun with all the guys. It used to be that crew members were allowed to skip all-gay charters if they wished, but it seems that they are more prone to enjoy the sailing.

Tha'ts what I've heard about the RSVP cruises on HAL too - they've even had staff request to be brought aboard specifically for the gay cruises!

Pics look great! Certainly something for the eye.....

Did you speak with any single travelling people on the Navigator? How did they experience the cruise?

Being on such a big ship by yourself comes accross to me as rather intimidating.

Was the atmosphere open and friendly or did people stay in their clagues and by couples.

I was at Gay pride in Toronto a couple of years ago and this ciruit party stuff did not feel very comfortable to me.

Do they have a sharing programme for single people? Has anybody heard about good or bad experiences. No looking for sex in this way.

I talked to a good number of single travelers on the cruise. I think it boils down to personality. Some people just love meeting people, other really just want to relax alone with a good book. But most thought it was a great experience, even if they only met a few people. On an all gay ship, everyone seems friendlier than they would be normally. There were guys that were very friendly and chatty with me on the cruise that probably would not give me even a glance out in the real world. Atlantis does a pretty good job of tailoring events to the single traveler, singles dinners, singles cocktail parties etc . .

Also, there are a couple of websites out there where you can place a posting looking for a roomie. That way you can get to know the person before you book. Atlantis only matches up by smoking or non-smoking
