Honfleur, Saint-Malo, Pont Aven, La Rochelle, Bordeaux...

Should we expect Giverny be crowded on a weekday in mid-September?

By mid- September the crowds will have subsided compared to the busy summer season. On our last visit (which was in very early October) there were no crowds...which made it a delightful visit.

Hawkeyecruisr - How did you end up getting to Pont-Aven? We will do this cruise in September.

What did you do in La Coruna? Thanks.

Yes, we did go to Pont-Aven - and really liked it. It's a charming town and well worth a visit. We were in Concarneau on a day when the bus schedules weren't convenient so we ended up sharing a taxi with others to and from Pont-Aven. It's about 15-20 minutes one way between the 2 towns.

Be aware that there are not many taxis in Concarneau and they're not that easy to secure. We went to the TI (in the parking lot near the ship tender dock) and they called a taxi for us. Tell the TI people you want a round trip and they can relay that info to the taxi company. Many of the taxi drivers don't speak English.

BTW, the Ville Close in Conarneau is worth a couple hours time and it's right there next to the dock. Be sure to buy some of the wonderfully addictive macarons!

Our cruise did not stop at La Coruna.

Hawkeye Do you recall a ballpark figure for the taxi ride to Pont-Aven?

I don't have the exact amount but I spent only 29 Euros at that port stop. That's the total for the taxi round-trip and some of those wonderful macarons.

The taxi we took was an SUV with 3 rows of seats so it could hold 6 pax. My part of the taxi cost was 1/3 of the total since we were 3 couples.

LA ROCHELLE is duable on your own (easy walking)... some images from our experience last year:

Getting to the heart of the city of La Rochelle, France from the docking area using the RCI shuttle bus ($15.00 USD round-trip) before the Sail-away aboard the RCI cruise ship "Vision of the Seas."

A one thousand year old city with its eye on the future, La Rochelle is a beautiful and generous city that manages to preserve exceptional natural and architectural assets while developing its own area in an innovative, sensitive and harmonious way. Nestling at the heart of the Atlantic sea front, the city has been able to turn its solid maritime base into a fantastic economic, tourism and cultural asset.

Our first Port of Call was La Coruña, in Spanish Galicia.

- Walked from the Port area to the local train station - 45 min (to take the train to beautiful Santiago de Compostela)

- Visited the famous Cathedral and walked the streets of Santiago de Compostela (before returning to La Coruña using the train)

* The locals made an event out of our cruise ship "Vision of the Seas" being docked in their town, La Coruña -- Thursday evening lots of them came to take pictures of the ship or just look at it
