Paul&Kathy Posted September 18, 2010 #1 Share Posted September 18, 2010 Can anyone tell me a little about the road to Cane Garden Beach - DH is terrified of heights and hates mountain roads, especially if there are twisty roads with no crash barrier close to the edge of a cliff ! We are thinking of just taking a cab to Cane Garden but will the road give him a panic attack ? If so would it be better to hire a car and is there a low coast road we could follow around part of the island ? We just want to see some of the scenery (but NOT from the look-out points at the top !) and spend a couple of hours on a nice beach. Thanks for any help. Pyrate13 Posted September 18, 2010 #2 Share Posted September 18, 2010 You can not get to CGB without going over the mountains in the center of Tortola unless you get there by boat. If he is that sensitive to mountain roads it's probably going to bother him some. Most folks have no problem with the roads but there are some that find them to be scary, especially folks like your DH.
Paul&Kathy Posted September 19, 2010 Author #3 Share Posted September 19, 2010 Thanks for your advice, which really confirmed what I already suspected. Any suggestions for what we could do on the Road Town side of the island other than just wander around the town ? There don't seem to be any beaches in that area. Pyrate13 Posted September 19, 2010 #4 Share Posted September 19, 2010 There is a more or less man made beach at Brandywine Bay, which is east of Road Town. Or you could go to Trellis Bay on the east end of Tortola. Some nice shops with local art work and a nice bar/restaurant on the bay at the Loose Mongoose. There is one part of the road that is steep and might give your DH a bit of a fright but you get over it quickly. You could also taxi over to West End & Soper's Hole to shop and eat. The Jolly Roger has a very nice view of the harbor, cold beers and good food.
