Beaches in Tahiti close to Papeete

Tahiti is not really a beach place at all - though I happen to like the black sand beach at the Radisson Hotel, about 3-4 miles west of Papeete. It's part of historic Matavai Bay where the original 18th century voyagers made their base camps. Further west is Point Venus and from the sweeping black sand beach here you can swim and enjoy an incredibly spectacular view of Tahiti's mountainous interior. It's very popular with locals at weekends and there is a fair amount of litter strewn around. It's also scorchingly hot.

Is this the Radisson that's in Arue? It's only 3-4 miles from Papeete? I heard the cab ride is $40 - $45 from the airport. Is this true?
