Help! Strike in Spain TOMORROW

Any advice /help for some of our cruise mates who are being told NOW that Delta flights headed for Barcelona are cancelled tonight with no promise of rescheduling to reach the ship by departure October 1!!! Seems like some carriers are still a go - but not Delta??

Do airlines re-book on other carriers? or only partners? What can a person do??????

Any help appreciated.

Step one. Understand that rerouting MAY be possible on the basis of fare class of ticket, and whether that ticketing rules permits endorsability to other airlines. Read the fare rules associated with the purchase of your ticket. Generally speaking, the cheaper the ticket, the more restrictive it is. Re-routing can also depend on things like frequent flier status, but most importantly, it will always be governed by the availability of seats.

Step two. Do your research -- have alternate (and acceptable to you) routings available. I'd look flying via CDG and/or AMS first. The strike is only scheduled to last an hour -- from 09h to 10h -- when most NA based flights are landing, or are being turned. Try looking for DL flights that connect elsewhere in Europe. That will allow you to get to BCN after the work action has concluded. As a back-up, are you willing to fly into an adjacent unaffected airport? Toulouse, FR? Montpelier, FR? and take the train back into BCN?

Step three. Call your airline. If, at first, you don't get an answer you like, don't be afraid to call back again. There is a wide variation in aptitude and attitude between call centre agents. Sometimes getting the right agent is all it takes.

Good luck.

Scott.

As far as I know the strike is just 1 day, September 29 only.

Phone your airline for details re re-booking on another carrier. Since they are in skyteam, flying with Air France or KLM might be an option on September 30.

And barring that, a flight into France and a train to BCN.
