Valor/Glory Decks

If I need to go elsewhere to find this out, I apologize and please re-direct me.

I am looking at either the upper(Deck 6) or the Verandah(Deck 8) on both of these ships. Balcony rooms on each. One ship I have the option of a "premium balcony". I don't know much about that room.

Anyway, any recommendations or things I should know about balcony rooms on either of those floors? Noise, blockage, etc. The room will be located mid to aft on ship. We have always stayed in interior/ocean views so this will be our first balcony.

Thank you.

I've been on both ships in balcony rooms. One was forward the other to mid-aft. I prefer the mid-aft on the Empress deck either ship since they are sister ships. Its a quick one floor up to the Lido deck and just a few floors down to the promenade. I never heard any noise in this location or in the forward location. If you have anymore questions, please let me know. Have a great cruise. :D

I would also try to book Empress deck, so you are sandwiched between cabins. If booking upper deck, try not to get above showroom, casino, lounges, due to late noise factor. If booking on Veranda deck, try to get a cabin below the Lido deck cabins. (forward-ish) Otherwise, again you may have a noise factor if under the pools, buffet, aft pizza areas, etc. Heard problems of chair scrapping as crew was taking down/setting up lounge chairs.

My husband and I were on the Verandah deck on the Valor in April - 8438 I believe. We were under the aft lido bar, but never heard any noise. The way the lido is set up on that class of ship you don't have much noise on the sides in the aft.

Premium balconies are larger balconies right before the aft-wraps start. It would be nice, but if the price difference is high, stick with a regular balcony.

Have you considered the spa deck? Limited number of rooms and low amount of foot traffic makes for very little noise in the hallways, plus the only thing that is below you is another balcony cabin.
We just had a spa deck cabin on Glory and I really didn't care for it. While there are a limited number of cabins, there are a lot of people going to and from Camp Carnival on deck 12 and we had a fair amount of noise from both kids and parents.

We've had cabins on deck 6 twice and deck 8 twice, and of the two I prefer deck 8. We heard noise from the Promenade deck in both deck 6 cabins, while on deck 8 the most noise we ever heard were chairs being moved around occasionally.

Now I'm getting worried. We are booked in 6240. How bad can we expect the noise to be?

You are above the side-seating of the main theater, so once the shows are over, there shouldn't be much noise at all right below you. Even the late shows should be done around 11:30. You're also far enough away from the stairway that you shouldn't hear any noise coming up from there. Most of the passed-midnight noise carrying upward is more midship and aft anyway. So you should be fine.

Really open to any deck, those two are just the ones that come up for the price we are looking at.

I also recommend Deck 7. If you call Carnival, they can help you out alot. The website will only show you, at most, 10 available rooms in the category, even if there are more available. If you call them, they can tell you what all is available. Deck 7 has alot of suites, but the regular balcony rooms are category 8C (more midship) and 8B (front and back). I personally would go for a room in the 7350s to 7380s area.

The "premium balcony" rooms are 2 rooms on Deck 8. The rooms and balconies are bigger. They are right below the aft pool area. A "premium vista balcony" is the aft wraps that everyone who's had them loves so much.

I agree somewhat, there was a little bit of noise during the day, however, we weren't in the room much during the daytime. At night it was nice and quiet. :)

Funny you should recommend deck 7 as when I called the PVP last night, he had room 7439(larger balcony in the back corner) for the same price as a regular balcony. This room hadn't shown up on the internet so was glad that I called him. I guess it is laid out differently from a regular room, but with the same sq. footage. I liked the idea of a larger balcony. I was told a std. balcony was 35 sq. ft., while this one is 75 sq. ft.

Hopefully he didnn't lead me astray. My wife and I are celebrating our 12th anniversary.

We had cabin 7434 on Liberty - identical cabin, other side of ship. These are called "L"-shaped cabins, as there is a narrow hallway that leads into it. The cabin seems smaller than regular balcony cabins, but the balcony is fantastic. We had a chair, table and lounge chair, and there was still room to move around. That cabin has no sofa, which bothers some people. DD and I had our beds separated - your bed will be "together", which will give you more room to move around. We had trouble getting into the bathroom - the bathroom door wouldn't open the whole way, as it hit one of the beds. We ended up climbing across the bed to get into the bathroom - easier for us. I would definitely book this cabin again, just for the balcony. Enjoy, and happy anniversary!

We were on the Glory, Upper Deck, mid-ship in June. Though we were over Club O2, we could hear the disco at times. I would be more likely to try Verandah as we are morning people when most of the noise on the Lido would be happening.

Yes, that was another room that I was thinking about suggesting when I was looking at the deck plans. These tend to get snatched up quick. The deck plans clearly show that it is a much larger balcony, and it's in the same category (same price) as the regular balcony rooms next to it that lead towards the stairs.

On a different but very similar class of ship (Triumph), we'll be in an L-shaped cabin, in basically the same spot on the ship as your room, but down on Deck 2. It has 2 picture windows in it, which also testifies that the footprint of the room is longer than normal, meaning you have a longer balcony. For us, we get our room for the price of a 1A (inside). Cruisecritic has been a big help in finding out about these unique rooms, where you get more than what you paid for.

I've stayed 2x on Verandah deck and loved it. I chose a room that was in a quieter section above (don't remember what was there, but we never heard noise in our cabin).

This next cruise we are staying on Empress--safely ensconced between two cabin decks. Nice and cozy. :)
