Silly complaints

I agree that there are some things the crew does that make you scratch your head...

I always bring an insulated, 32 oz. mug for Diet Coke. That way, when I'm bumming at the pool, I can still have a cold drink after 5 minutes!!! Went to a bartender to get a refill, with the Unlimited Soft Drink Card, and asked her to fill the cup. She put one can in, which was a little over half with the ice. I asked her again to fill it, and she smartley said, "You are limited to one can at a time." I asked her if she had seen the card for free UNLIMITED refills, and she said yes. I grabbed my mug, took about 2 steps back, walked up again, and said, "Hi, I'd like a refill." She then poured the 2nd can of Diet Coke in... People at the bar were almost falling off their stools laughing!

"I don't like that the waiters never learned our names by the end of the cruise".

That wouldn't make or break our cruise, but it is nice that our waitstaff has always learned our names, generally by the second night. In chatting with several maître d' s over the years, we have been told that name learning (NOT name calling :D) is part of their job.

When we could not get into Mexico in 2009 due to the swine flu, people were carrying on about it being Carnival's fault, like they started the swine flu just to piss these folks off!

You should have heard them on the Conquest a couple of weeks ago when we missed BOTH MoBay and Grand Caymen.......I honestly thought there was going to be a riot......MoBay was closed because we were having 12 foot sea's with 60 knot winds and it was pouring down rain......the Captain tried 3 times to snuggy up to the pier and it just couldn't be done......and what the heck were all those angry passengers going to do if they did go ashore??????they were having mudslides FTLOG, people were dying!!!!!!!

When we got to GC, the Caymen authorities suspended tender operations, it was kind of cool seeing all the ships in the harbor do their 180's and head back out to sea.............again nothing Carnival could do

Some guy was passing around a petition saying that the Captain had agreed to give us back 55% of our cruise fare if we got a majority of the guests to sign it.

They ended up giving us back our port charges (about $25 total), free drinks Thursday evening from 4:30 to 6:00 in all bars on the Promenade and Lido and 20% off a future cruise good until September 2012. Pretty generous if you ask me.......

This isn't really a silly complaint but did make me shake my head. The last day of the cruise I was down paying my bill and there was a woman in front of me arguing about her charges. Apparently her son spent the entire cruise on his laptop and wanted the charges removed. Personally I go on a cruise to get away from computers and cell phones. Who would want to spend their entire vacation on the computer?

I was standing in line at the pursers desk when a "gentleman" came up to the Platinum line. The crew were all helping others and he started yelling that they needed to stop and come help him because he was platinum. I told him to shut up and quit being rude.

a number of years ago we were on a 5 night out of Miami one of our stops was to be Key West. Well we couldn't stop at KW due to a heavy t-storm hitting the area. It wasn't raining near the ship but you could see KW and the storm in the distance. Don't remember what I had gone to the Pursers Desk for but there was a women just yelling and screaming that Carnival owed her something as she missed the midnight buffet the night before as she had to get up early to go diving in KW and now KW was canceled. The women at the desk tried to explain that she didn't have to miss the buffet she could have went to bed early got up went to it and returned to bed and that it was KW port folks that refused clearance for the ship to dock. The complainer just keep yelling you owe me for missing............

...not sure how long it went on as I did my business with a smile, a please and thank you and left!

This wasn't on a ship (sorry, I'm breaking the rules here) but my husband and I went to an AI a few years back. I read a lot of reviews on Trip Advisor in advance and so many people we're complaining that the cups at the swim up bar were too small, the italian restaurant's food wasn't authentic, etc. We took it all for a grain of salt and none of those complaints were complaints to us. The one that made us laugh out loud though when we arrived at our AI was that the "hallways were too hot and that almost ruined their vacation." Um...the hallways were open air...in Aruba!!

Just a little information on people who like to complain:

I work in the Country Club industry. They did a survey once asking people throughout the country why they join private country clubs. Would you believe one of the top reasons was to "have someone to listen to my complaints"?!!

That's right - they join the clubs to complain! Probably the same way with cruises - one of the few opportunities to complain where somebody has to sit there and listen to you . . .

I'm definitely not saying this is a valid excuse, but does kind of explain why people will find such little things to gripe about!

rofl!!! TOO funny!!:D:D This reminds me of some comment cards that were left at some kind of hiking trail (i'm trying to remember where this was) station or something....and one person actually wrote that there should be flashlights so that people hiking could see where they were going....there were too many bugs and pests on the mountain and they should think about spraying....etc. etc. etc....

In 2005 we were on one of the last few days of our cruise. This particular cruise was at the same time that hurricane Katrina was heading for New Orleans (all the ships were diverted to Galveston to dock). We had a very rocky ride across the gulf, they closed the outside decks and they had barf bags put out all along the hallways. As the ship was rocking and rolling I actually heard a women complaining to the cabin steward about the creaking of the ship and asking him to have someone come and fix it!

On Liberty in Aug. we were talking to a couple who complained that it was Elegant Evening and nobody told them they'd have to bring nice clothes to wear! They also couldn't believe we were on our 4th Carnival cruise: "really, how can you stand to come back?" We were drinking our 5 martinis for $15 and they wanted to know how we found out about them (we read about it in the Fun Times).:) I remember what it's like to be a cruise newbie, but seriously, can you not take some reponsibility to be informed about what's happening on the ship?

Ok this is not about complaints on a cruise, But I use to work for a major Nevada casino at Lake Tahoe. One of my jobs was gathering all the comment cards and distributing then to the proper people.

One man complained about one of the dancers in a topless show his complaint was that her boobs were to big.

One lady complained that there was nudity in a show that was advertised as "adults only topless review" this show started at 11:00 P.M.

one man said his 2 year old daughter was upset because there room did not overlook the swimming pool.

I thought he was complaining about only being able to smoke on 1 side but he thought Carnival was lieing about port being on the left when we docked they were on the right?????? I advised him the port & starboard are nautical terms but I couldn't help but laugh... it still makes me chuckle now.

Last year I booked an OV on a ship/itin that I'd not been on before. I happened to call the general 800 number when I couldn't reach my PVP, and I asked if it would be better to book on the port or starboard side to see the good stuff when we were in port. And the rep made me feel so dumb when he told me "that's why it's called the port side." Of course, now I know better, but can't help but wonder if he's said that others too...

First breakfast on our cruise and my DH and I went to the MDR for breakfast and were seated with 8 senior women (all well over 70) only to have the entire conversation be about the Welcome Aboard show the night before and how the ladies "buttocks" where hanging out and it was reprehensible. That is of course until one little old lady pointed at my DH and commented quite loudly how he must have enjoyed the naked lady show. Poor DH didn't even wait for his english muffin and the rest of the week we had breakfast a a very nice table for two! .... LOL

On our last cruise, aboard the Pride, we were seated with a couple that never showed and a couple, older than us, from somewhere in West Virginia. The guy had retired from the cement industry.

He spent every dinner complaining about stuff and saying that "Royal did it better." His wife, who was a wonderful, gracious lady, spent every night rolling her eyes.

The final comment from Mr. Royal was priceless! Royal Caribbean does the Warm Chocolate Melting Cake better.

One of my favorite menu items each cruise is the cold soup. I get it every night. I was talking with my husband about tonight's cold soup and our table mates asked me about it and we chatted. So he ordered the cold soup, as did I. Well, when the soup came he tasted it and made a very suprised face. I asked him what was wrong and he said "it's cold!" Well, duh . . . I told him it was supposed to be cold - that's why it's called chilled soup. He said he knew it was called chilled soup, but he thought that was just some sort of name - he didn't think it meant it would be cold.

I heard two on the same cruise last year. We sailed in May from Baltimore on the Pride during an unusual cold snap. We also hit a pretty strong cold front coming off the coast so it was, cold, rough seas, and rainy the first few days.

We were having a great time our first sea day in spite of the 42 degree morning weather when we ran across two women complaining that their cruise was ruined and that Carnival had caused the cold weather to make sure they sold more sweatshirts in the gift shop.

A few days later as we left Freeport to head back north, we also hit about 18-20 foot seas. We stepped into the elevator that night only to hear a man saying angrily to his companion that he was going to the bridge to tell the captain to slow this d**m ship down so it wouldn't rock so much!

OK. This isn't a silly complaint; just a "did she really ask that question?" comment.

We were standing in front of the bank of elevators outside the showroom, when a lady (mid-50's) turned to her husband and asked "What do the numbers stand for above the elevator doors?". Everyone w/in earshot looked at her and then at each other and tried not to laugh. When we got on the elevator (minus the lady), everyone just started busting up.

Not a complaint but the funniest tablemate ever. She was a middle aged woman who had a liking for her "medication" which I later figured out was Lortab. Our husbands first names were the same. All in one day:

1. She calls my cabin. Tells me she's at the spa and so relaxed (wasted). Asks about the PG party and I tell her she's not missing anything. She thanks me, hangs up. 30 seconds later calls back and when I answer she says "Is M*** there? I said he sure is. She screeches....who ARE you and WHY are you in my cabin with my husband??

2. She makes it to dinner but says she can't drink because of her "medication". Bar waiter comes around and she orders a double vodka. Soon after, she was nodding off at the table.

3. I order the lamb. Suddenly she comes to life and says in her long southern drawl "Oh Maaary, Maaary, Maaary" The whole table including her husband folds in laughter and I'm trying to figure it out when my friend leans over and says.....Mary had a little lamb. LOL :)

Bless her heart. She really was nice when she wasn't wasted.

Is this something new?

Well, they weren't full size ones, but they definitely had alcohol in them and we thought they were quite good! We'd seen them on Glory last year also. Sorry, just checked my Fun Times and it was 4/$15, still a good deal. Look under "Beverage Service" for "Martini Tasting" and it was at the Sushi counter.

One of the ports on our honeymoon cruise was Cayman. We had stopped at a store where you could make stuffed animals and we made a stuffed toucan. After some more shopping we stopped at Margaritaville for a few "Ritas" Feeling little pain we returned to the tender boat and headed to our ship. I started being silly with the toucan and said I was going to name him Jimmy. Well apparently the woman across from me was a birdup know it all, and told me I couldn't name it Jimmy as Jimmy Buffet was a parrothead and it would be offensive. I said I really didn't care, I was naming my bird Jimmy. She then started to tell me, rather loudly, the difference between a toucan and a parrot, including the number of toes and what they eat, to which I turned to her and said "well, I'm not planning on feeding it, it's stuffed" Everyone within earshot started laughing and the woman got up and moved.

Chill out and relax, you'll be home far to soon
