How mobile are you?

  • From ship to exit of dock area there's a shuttle bus
  • 4 block walk to Civitavecchia train station.
  • €5 (approx) train fare one-way from Civitavecchia to Roma Termini Station
  • 4 block walk from Termini to your hotel.

This is not bad on a touring day from the ship, but with luggage and all the other hand bags we have when disembarking, I'd rather skip the 4 block walk and the juggling of bags onto the train. Unless you are traveling very light, don't forget about the pick pockets on the train, they prey on folks with luggage. You may want to see if Viator offers any reasonably priced shuttles into the city.

Happy cruising...Joanne

We did the train to port with all our luggage. It was no big deal. We each had one giant wheelie bag, a backpack, and I had an additional tote bag.

It was a bit of a pain in that the trains didn't have designated luggage storage space. Some people grabbed groups of 4 seats and used 2 for luggage, 2 for themselves. We opted to just stack our wheelie bags in an open space. Others ended up throwing their suitcases on top of ours. All the suitcases were in view of us from our seats--no issues.

To save 140 Euros, it was well worth a little added hassle, in my opinion. The cheapest taxi I could find was 150Euros.
