Rare TLCOhio Posted October 9, 2010 #3 Share Posted October 9, 2010 Here's a link to an article in the New York Times travel section titled "36 hours in Rome" which I thought might be of interest to some of you with plans to visit Rome.http://travel.nytimes.com/2010/10/10/travel/10hours.html?hpw Keith THANKS, Keith, for the posting the link to this article that will be in Sunday's New York Times travel section. Among the story highlights are: "ROME is the city that oversleeps. Unlike other European cultural capitals, this glorious jumble of history and art changes slowly. But lately, Rome has welcomed some new sparkle. A futuristic museum in the historic center has added color to the city’s architectural scene. Around town young chefs are experimenting with local ingredients to create new tastes. Even old palazzos have been given makeovers. After years of hitting snooze, this ancient city might just be waking up." Many of these "36 Hours" features are aimed a little more towards the much younger and more "hipster" folks, unlike Keith and me. But, there are many interesting items that might be of interest to a wider range of travelers, depending on your travel style. This includes this item/option: "The Maxxi (Via Guido Reni, fondazionemaxxi.it), opened in April, is still the talk of Rome. Designed by Zaha Hadid, it is the city’s most ambitious contemporary art museum, and offers playful views with its odd-angled ramps, hidden corners and oblique windows." Rome clearly has lots of the older and more traditional options. This story outlines some of the newer and more "cutting-edge" potentials in this historic capital. Enjoy!
