Long Beach/San Diego screening

I've had friends recently who had a near cavity search in LB and had 'the stuff' confiscated including any altered containers. Seems like everyone in their group had the same thing happen. Any other reports that indicate increased scrutiny at embarkation? I am curious of any changes that may have been made or were these people just the unlucky scapegoats? I'm not asking for methods or advocating for breaking rules, just any valid news so don't go getting all excited.

We very recently flew Jet Blue out of Long Beach, with no problems. She had her checked bag opened (she had a full bottle of wine in the bag), while I had no problem or inspection. I carried on a small day pack, with all the metallic items (including my belt, keys, change, etc) in the day pack. No problem.

On returning back to Long Beach from SeaTac, I had a partially-full wine bottle in my checked bag, which was (evidently) NOT inspected beyond x-raying.
