Inbound emails - any charge?

We are on the "Regatta's" TA leaving Barcelona on Nov13th. Our docs from O came the other day and noticed that outbound emails are $3.95. No mention of what is charged for inbound. Anyone out there have any info.?

Cheers,

Yowsa, I'm shocked. The last I heard the charge was $2.00. I guess that shows how much I use the ship's email service.

Back in the day, it was $2 each way. I would guess that it is now $3.95 each way.

As for outgoing, it can be better typing your own message offline and then using the ship's service to send. It's a question of how long you would be typing at the per minute charge. If it's cheaper to use their service, then do so. If not, type "live" by going on line through your own webmail.

This can be hard to predict, of course.

But I suppose that if you are going to be sending the same message to 10 people, even if you aren't a super fast typist it could end up being cheaper typing "live" rather than paying $3.95 per email.

That's pretty stiff! Considering the high rates they charge to begin with, it's close to unconscionable ...

More and more the onshore internet cafes become the way to go!

P.S. Now that I think about it, we've always gotten a notice from Oceania prior to the cruise about our onboard email address, etc. I don't remember getting ANYTHING like that prior to our "Midnight Sun" cruise in mid-July. Unless I just ignored it when the materials came in, which is quite possible. Whatever, I certainly didn't know the doubling in price for using their servce. Bear in mind that I have no idea when those rates were increased ... I've never used that service myself.

Mura you were probably so excited you missed it ;)

They have it listed in the blue booklet...

I agree the rates are too much I am dreading to cost on our upcoming Marina cruise:eek:

That must be it, Lyn. As a returning cruiser I totally ignored the little blue book! I remember separate letters in days of yore ... oh well.

I'm sure you'll be happy on Marina whatever it costs! We aren't due to sail on Marina until next September, so I should get lots of information before then!

After emailing an O Special Services Coordinator who said they were and speaking with an O Cruise Specialist who said they were not apparently, inbound emails are not charged for unless they contain some form of attachment i.e. picture etc. So, if you receive just an email from say your children or grandchildren at your Oceania@Sea email address it should be a freebie! If you send an e-mail then you pay the $3.95. This is outside any of the Internet deals O offers. Hope this helps!!!
