Jewell 11012

Has anyone been in room 11012 on the Jewell?

Do you know if the room is quiet?

Does the couch become a bed (either a single or double bed)?

Does the coffee maker in the room use K cups? ( I have a Keurig coffee maker and was thinking of bringing my favorite coffee selections)

I see there is not a Mexican restaurant on the Jewell. We really liked the sangria in the Mexican restaurant on the Dawn. Is the sangria available on the Jewell?

Looks like it's under the library, a excellent choice, better than under the pool deck or fitness area. While you are near to the elevator and there is sometimes a little bit of noise from passing passengers, the extra bedroom in the AB will buffer out any hallway noise from the main living areas of the suite.

Not 100% sure, but they do on the Jade (sister ship).

Definitely not Keurig, I think it's Lavazza - different pods or might be the ones that custom gring the beans for each cup (as it was in the Jewel OS in July, they are switching over to Lavazza in time).

There is Tango's Latin restaurant on board. Excellent sangria at the Tapas Bar - they had a sangria tasting on our last sailing and we became big fans. Great bartender there, we nicknamed him "Chips Ahoy" - his last name is Ahoy - hope he will be there on our sailing in Dec.

We just booked 11006 for a sailing in December and looking forward to seeing all my old Jewel friends!

Thanks for your quick reply. This is very helpful.

We were in an AB suite on the Dawn last year and really liked the space and suite perks.

I had understood that the couch in these suites sometimes can become a bed and sometimes does not, and this can vary even on the same ship. Had anyone else heard this?

I sure hope Tango's and the Sangria bar is still there! I am also in love with Chips Ahoy and his delicious sangrias :) He also did a fabulous job on our margarita tasting and I really hope he is still there!

I hope all of the couches in the Jewel AB's fold out. We just added a 3rd person for our cruise and we all want separate sleeping areas!

Please come back after your sailing and let me know! What a great guy he is, right? I want to bring him a gift on our sailing, along with a couple other crew members. Hopefully you will have Adrian as concierge, he is supposed to return to the Jewel Nov 7, please let me know if he is there as well! Still trying to see if Garreth will be in the casino after Nov 7. Have a great cruise!

Chips Ahoy is just a doll, and his smile is contagious for sure. I am cautiously optimistic that Adrian will be back for us as he is another jewel. I will definitely know if Garreth is there as I spend entirely too much time in his domain :p I'll be checking out the 3% fee, too, and I will let you know about all of the above when I get back!

To Geenie: on my Jewel cruise back in Sept 2009, we did a cabin crawl during which we visited many of the different cabin categories (inside, oceanview, balcony, AF, AB). I am fairly certain that we actually toured 11012, but it's possible that it was 11006.

Here's a link to my photos of the Jewel, including 20+ shots of the AB suite. You'll have to page through the photos to find them.

Robin,

Sorry I didn't get to post Live from the Jewel for our 10/24 cruise. They put new laptops in the GV & OS & they only allow access to the internet (for a fee) but no Word Processing software. I can type but not fast enough to post while on line at the speed of their internet & the cost.

I spoke to John D'Souza who was replacing Adrian. Adrian will return on 11/7 and John will go back to the Star. John did just great as Concierge. John lent me his laptop so I could record our daily journal so my DW can do our scrapnook to post on our webshots. Should be up next week

John said Garreth is now on another ship. The casino was good to one of our friends who won a lot of money on the "Wild 4" slot.

Have a great cruise on 12/5

Happy Cruising,

Monty

Hi,

I just returned home today from the Jewel and yest I was in room 11012. We also had the connecting mini suite 11014. No the coffee maker does not use K cups. The coffee maker grounds the coffee. We had a hard time at first trying to figure out how to operate it. I even requesting the different type of coffee maker but no go. Even when you select large cup the coffee barely fills the tiny coffee cups that are provided and you have to do it twice. Our connecting cabin had a traditional coffee maker in it (which we did not use) but that cabin had regular mugs.

The room was very quiet. I only heard a slight noise from above maybe 1 night.

The couch does become a bed (probably more like a full size bed). It is very hard. They tried padding it with a comforter but it was still very firm. My daughter loved the 2nd bedroom though and slept in it every night.

Did not go to the mexican restaurant so can't answer that questions.

The room location is perfect! Just 1 flight up to the pool area!

Let me know if you want any more specific information about the cabin. I am going to be writing a review soon.

Oops, I asked the couch question on your other thread, but I see my answer here. We will ask for an eg crate pronto when we get onboard! Thanks.

Rich, I'll try to leave everything in working order for you :p I talked Carol into joining us. Tell Loretta that Carol & I say Hi!

Thanks for the update Monty! Glad I'll be seeing Adrian, but sad about Garreth - my sis reminded me that he told us all about it, but I can't seem to remember - I will have to shoot him an email and ask. Looking forward to your review of my favorite cabin!

I asked for an egg crate but he looked at me like he didn't know what I was talking about. It was later at night and they just padded the bed. I did see something under the couch that resembled an egg crate but I didn't pursue it any further. But from the condition of it, it wasn't something that I wanted my daughter sleeping on, (looked kind of nasty).

Geenie,

I just wanted to add something. This was our first time sailing with NCL and although this was not our favorite cruise that we have taken, the room was the best. No complaints at all. It was very spacious. I don't know how I will ever be able to go back to a standard balcony. The second bedroom was great for the kids. There were TV's everywhere. The shower was nice as well as the tub. The balcony felt very private. You do need to be creative with where to put the clothes. I don't know how many you are traveling with but I put my 2 girls clothes in their room and it fit well, my son's went into the connecting mini suite and my husband and myself I used our room. Some went in the 3 drawers that are next to the closet and the others I put in a cabinet that was above the TV, the rest hung in the closet. I brought way too many clothes for all and although I say that I will never do that again, I always do.

The only downfall was where the toilet was. I just could not go to the bathroom (if it was more then urinating) if my husband was laying on the bed. It may sound gross to talk about, but I just couldn't relax. I had to use the 2nd bathroom or my moms cabin connecting. Sounds just seemed to echo in there.

Motheroftrips, did you eat at any Specialty rests? Which was your favorite meal and dessert?

I thought Tango's was tex-mex? Didn't I read other's reviews of having lobster taco's? I may be mixing up reviews of different ships. :o

We ate at Cagneys for dinner. The meal was very good, however, for some reason it took a real long time to get our meal. We got there at 8:00pm but didn't get our main dish until 9:15. The waitress did tell us that there was a delay in our meal and asked if she could get us something else. My daughter fell asleep at the table. When I asked if they could page John, our concierge, someone else came over to the table and then they were all over us. They even delievered desert back to our cabin.

They have mini crabcakes for appetizer which were very good. As far as desert, we had a cheesecake at lunchtime at Cagneys and it was incredible. I had the steak for dinner. Also at lunch time I had some kind of bruchetta (that I ordered with my meal) and it was delicious!

We never got to eat breakfast at Cagneys because they closed at 0930 and we were never up and ready that early to eat. In the garden buffet they had some kind of spinach poached eggs that I loved.

We did not eat at Tango's but I did see the menu. Thee were lobster tacos on it.

Tangos is Tex-Mex or Latin, depending on how you look at it and has a separate Tapas Bar for tapas and drinks. My favorite has always been Le Bistro or the Asian place (not teppanyaki) and sushi is also good too.

Now I know why the Jewel will be in dry dock between your cruise and ours....:p

I'm working on Northender..Adele & Bob to join us..

We already have an AE and are hoping to up sell to an AB if NCL ever gets back on line...

Too bad Carlos isn't still on the Jewel, but I do hear good things about the Concierge we will have.

Eeewww - that sounds quite disgusting actually! I will be sure to check out the condition of the egg crates!

Pain in the butt with NCL's computer down. I knew I should have printed my docs already!

We had Adrian for our concierge in July and he was fabulous. I had an accident and spent a couple of days stuck in the room and he and our butler took excellent care of me. Hopefully he really is back as of this week's sailing!

I noticed you will be on the Emerald Princess in March. We'll be on the Dawn and pretty much following you around all week although our paths will never cross!

Rich, my only tip for the Courtyard is to use it! Don't plan on using the Sundeck on Deck 15 when you are underway, though. The wind is crazy up there! We spent too much time in the darn casino to fully take advantage of it, and I regret that!

We just accepted an upsell to the Garden Villa so we will have a new experience this trip!

Hey Rich! The concierge lounge on the Jewel is a little room on deck 15, accessed by the stairs between the GVs (up where they put the Deluxe OS on other ships). It was always empty when we looked on our last Jewel sailing, but they kept it stocked with coffee, teas, cookies and candy. What's particularly cool about it is the view. Same view over the pool area as the GVs - the one thing I really liked about the GV, that view. It's not quite the same as sitting there in your jammies voyeuristically scanning the pool area, but still a GREAT view. (Similar to the view from Cagney's but without the walkway right in front).

Yes, you really need to use the CY area - we find that in the OS we don't use it as much as we should (I too am guilty of too much casino time). But then again, when I was in the OS, I never felt the urge to leave! This particular cruise, I know I will be spending more time there (trying to avoid too much casino time) and hopefully we will see you up there too!
