Can't book triple! No upgrades?

Has anyone had this experience? Don't understand because the cruise is far from full (century in december).

Could this just be a glitch?

Also was told that Celebrity has stopped upgrading if price goes down -- is that the case?

My 11/27 century cruise had its suites go missing. I'm assuming that it's just repricing and they'll be back shortly.

Upgrades depend on the fare in question and whether it's upgradable or not. A lot of the one day specials are not, but some are. Anything generally available (ie, standard rates, senior and resident specials, etc) will typically be available to upgrade to.

Did you call Celebrity or a TA or where you just looking on their web site?

We did take the family on one RCL cruise several years ago during the holidays (New Year's cruise). We tried adding a third person to one of the cabins and were told that they were at their overall ship-wide limit for having more than two in a cabin but there were still available cabins available that we could book for 2. Apparently this is some sort of capacity control and not uncommon.

Cruise ships have a limit to the number of passengers they can carry, but will generally have more berths than that number.

So it is possible for you to have a cabin that can physically accommodate a third person, but because the ship is booked at capacity already, you cannot add the third person.

This can change, especially around final payment date, as some people will cancel bookings they have been holding with a deposit only. If one of the cancellations is for 3 people in a cabin, you may be able to book your third person. If only cabins of two cancel, the cruise line will not give away the capacity to rebook that cabin for two people by giving one reservation to you for your third-person-in-a-cabin. Hope that makes sense. :p

The sailing is no where near capacity; even the FV won't take 3! I've talked to both a TA and Celebrity; Celebrity said they might be able to get a cabin opened up for 3. sounds like a situation where it might make sense to book directly with Celebrity (even though after final payment).

That is curious, since I have always assumed that FV cabins were designed for 3 or 4 persons. I can understand why the lesser cabins such as CC, and below would be restricted, which I applaud, but FV is another matter.

It's probably a question of how the numbers work. If the number of "berths" that they can still sell divides evenly by two and equals the number of cabins they still have available, then the program still won't take one of the "berths" allotment and give it to you for a "third" because then they could only sell one of their remaining cabins as a solo, which is not to their advantage.

This is handled by "yield management" and is basically done by a computer program, until a human being intervenes.

The other possibility, of course, is that it is a glitch, and will be corrected.;)

Either way, it might be worth your while to talk to a supervisor at Celebrity.

.....or better, work with a TA who knows their way through the system. He or she will either get you want you want or get you a true answer why you can't get a cabin. If you are dealing with an on line agency, many of their reservation agents are order takers and maybe have been on one of two cruises. Cruise line supervisors have limits what they can do. A good TA has a working relationship with the cruise line's District Sales Manager and will work through them to get the issue resolved.

This happens most often during any school holiday time. The ship overall capacity limit is based on safety factors, e.g. number of seats in lifeboats, etc.

As Far Horizon advised, the yield management computer system may have blocked 3's, but sometimes a Celebrity sales manager can find them, so best to use an agent. The first Solstice Xmas cruise was blocked for 3s for a while, but opened up around final payment. At this point though, the Century in Dec may have indeed hit its limit.
