navybaby1113 Posted November 18, 2010 #1 Share Posted November 18, 2010 We're thinking about going snorkeling on our cruise in February. Is the water going to be warm enough or should we think about doing a different excursion?

Is the water going to be warm enough or should we think about doing a different excursion? Define "warm enough" People from the frozen north find Cayman waters warm all year round. (frozen north = anything north of Tallahassee 4 me) People like me wear a wet suit when diving in Cayman in June. I'd expect that you'll find the water plenty warm at the surface for snorkeling. drew sailbum Posted November 19, 2010 #3 Share Posted November 19, 2010 February to March is typically the coldest water temps of the year... it normally is about 79°F at that time. If you are a tourist coming from the Frozen hinterlands (anywhere north of Florida) it is probably perfectly comfortable. If you live in more civilized climes (anywhere south of Havana) then it is time to break out the 5mm wetsuit and hood.
navybaby1113 Posted November 19, 2010 Author #4 Share Posted November 19, 2010 We're in Tallahassee, FL, so it sounds like I might have reason to be concerned.
Rare MrSchwump Posted November 23, 2010 #5 Share Posted November 23, 2010 We were there last Feb. and while it was fine to get in the water, I thought it was a bit cool. If you were going to be snorkeling, I'd want at least a vest or shortie.
