stores near pier in San Diego

Ask the taxi driver if he'll stop at the Ralph's grocery store downtown. He might to so for the increased fare. You could also check your bags and walk, but you're looking at about a 12 block walk each way. There's also a 7-11 on Broadway, but that's still a pretty good walk.

Well of course a taxi will take you anywhere you want to pay to go, and Ralph's is not between the airport and the pier, but about the same distance from the pier (and in much more traffic) than airport to pier. A shuttle will not do this.

If all you need is water and soda, and you don't mind lugging it yourself (or have a luggage cart), I would recommend checking in at the pier and then walking over to the RiteAid drug store, which is on the corner of Ash and Kettner or PCH as I remember. Otherwise, AFTER you have checked in, take another cab from the pier to Ralph's supermarket, and then catch another cab to come back.
