Pays to won Carnival stock for cruise credit

We just got our trip documents form Cunard and being a former CPA, I read everything. Saw that if you own 100 shares or more of Carnival, you get $250 shipboard credit. You must register for the credit at least one week prior to sailing. Only one credit per stateroom.

That's an improvement! Used to be $100.

Absolutely correct, for that amount of OBC your cruise must be 14 days or more. Less OBC for shorter voyages.

There are many references on CC about this, it works on all the Carnival owned lines, and can be combined with almost all other OBC on the various cruise lines.

The dividend is small but this effectively taxfree benefit is well worth the cost of owning the shares if you cruise at least annually, as long as Carnival stock doesn't crash, something that it shows no signs of doing at the moment, even though we are in a difficult economic time generally.

As your a past CPA ..that long test.. even a PA and/or a TA the Shareholder benefit helps.

If you do cruise any of the parents, CCK/CUK :NYSE/LSE ( Trading Symbols ), Lines you may obtain this if you follow simple procedures.

It is in the 10k ( Annual Report ) and as well Online too.

RCL :NYSE also does this but currently NO Cash Dividends have been declared on the common stock lately from that other firm.

A couple of smaller lines and agencies also have DRIP ( Dividend Re-Investment Plans ), SBP ( Shareholder Benefits Plans ), and DSIP (Direct Stock Purchase Plans) also!

As in anything ..Life, Love, Cruising, Investing.. it is what we all make of it..eh...;)

Why do you insist on, and persist in quoting stock symbols whenever you mention a shipping line? Eh...

Dear capnpugwash,

Simply as it is what it is.

Especially on a Cruise Line Thread in reply to a Stock ( Equity Question ).

Most as you may know do not understand there are Two Trading Commons for Carnival Stock. Those Being CCL and CUK. Each one has the great ( IMHO ) Shareholder Benefit of OBC declared by the Board of Directors..eh..

That may excuse you stating it this time ut you ALWAYS quote it and in my view it is trite and unnecessary, as is emboldened text.

I agree. Constant use of stock symbols aslo appears- to me, at least - to be advertising, which I thought was against CC rules.

Just be aware that if the stock returns to it's 52-week low, you would loose $1,400.

I wonder what the outlook is for cruise stocks. On one hand people are getting older, cruising is a safe and relaxing way to travel and the prices are competitive with other vacations. On the other hand new ships keep being built, capacity is up driving down prices and oil may spike at anytime. And that's ignoring any terrorist threats.

An aside question: One OBC per stateroom. Does that mean if your travel agent or Cunard gives you an OBC that eliminates the stock credit? Or does it mean that if two people in a stateroom own the stock you only get one stock OBC but can still combine it with your regular OBC?

Shareholder OBC is independent of any other and is not affected by the awarding/gifting of any other OBC. If two shareholders are sharing a cabin they only get the Shareholder OBC once.

This is true for Cunard but is not true for, say, Princess which is why I worded my earlier reply quite carefully.

I realise this is a Cunard forum but many Cunard passengers also cruise with Princess from time to time.

Our Dec 2010 Voyage my wife got $100 Stockholder credit+ each got $ 400 obc for bookig this voyage last year on the ship. If you do an early booking while on the ship you get a better OBC.

And you get the cabin you want - but maybe you miss out on a lastminute fare reduction, depends on the booking level, who can tell????

  • 3 weeks later...
Last I knew, the amount of credit depends on the category of your stateroom. Carnival Inside = $50. I'd better look into this. We sail Jan. 17th and 22nd, b2b, 5 days each. Am counting the days.

I think that you will find that it depends solely upon how many days your voyage lasts, regardless of cabin grade. Cunard or TA OBC is cabin grade oriented.
