dmc1025 Posted November 29, 2010 #1 Share Posted November 29, 2010 We have booked a Holland cruisetour and now am a little worried about coming up with all the money by April. My question is this to the group if we were to cancel the cruisetour and just do the cruise could we do Denali on our own. Is it possible to take the train there and then book a hotel? Any information would be most helpful. Thank you
bearbait Posted November 29, 2010 #2 Share Posted November 29, 2010 Or you could always rent a car in Anchorage and drive everywhere you wanted to go.
Budget Queen Posted November 29, 2010 #3 Share Posted November 29, 2010 Your only priority is Denali park?? IF funds are so limited, you may also be better off with one of HAL's round trip Vancouver sailings, they are excellent. :) Yes, if you have read this board for a while, independent touring of Interior Alaska, is simple to do. BUT, it is still going to be costly. I do NOT recommend the Alaska RR, which is extremely limiting and costly. You will do better going with a rental car- this opens up far more options for cheaper lodging and meals, along with Denal Park access with the shuttle buses. You do NEED, at least 4 extra days, with spending the day in Seward and taking the train to Anchorage.
